    Derbyshire 197 & 132-3 v Durham 171

Tom Lace drives a ball from Ben Raine pleasantly through the covers for three runs and there is his half-century, the 20-year-old's first in first-class cricket. It took him exactly 100 balls and included six fours. Derbyshire's lead is 158.

  2. ouch!

Will Vince prove able behind the stumps?published at 11:38 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 47-2

An unusual double at the Ageas Bowl where Hampshire keeper Tom Alsop has injured his hand, and skipper James Vince has donned the gloves.

Remember, Essex's Adam Wheater damaged a thumb on the opening day and after Dan Lawrence filled in temporarily, youngster Will Buttleman was summoned to replace him.

  3. Yorkshire's Root out of troublepublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 225-6

If there wasn't already a lot on the shoulders of Joe Root then golly gosh there is now.

Yorkshire are still 188 runs behind, so the England captain turning his 60 not out into a century is almost the bare minimum they need to stay in this match.

Matthew Waite's alongside him at the crease. It's just his seventh first-class match, but the young all-rounder has shown himself to be more than capable with the bat in limited-overs cricket.

Stuart Broad ends another over for Notts, during which his eyes lit up when Waite dropped one down JUST wide of short leg.

    Somerset 171 v Kent 97-4

    Matt RenshawImage source, Rex Features

An ugly way for Matt Renshaw to get out against his former team-mates. The Kent batsman tries to flick a ball from Lewis Gregory towards mid-wicket, but only succeeds in shovelling a catch to Tom Abell at cover.

The visitors were feeling good after dismissing Somerset on day two, but the mood will now be a little less confident as skipper Heino Kuhn walks out.

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 40-2

    Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

Having been outscored by partner Tom Westley first thing, Alastair Cook collects his first boundary of the day from the final ball of a Fidel Edwards over. But Westley is gone in the next as Kyle Abbott removes his leg stump.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Tattersall b Fletcher 9published at 11:18 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 215-6

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Notts have their first wicket of the third morning as Yorkshire wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall is bowled by Luke Fletcher for 9.

He drove the previous delivery for four, went for it again and was castled. Fletcher's third victim, all clean bowled.

  7. Gloomy and greypublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Notts 408 v Yorkshire 210-5

It could be tough at Trent Bridge this morning. The floodlights are on already because it's pretty dreary - the kind of weather that most people find depressing when they look out of the window.

Seam bowlers aren't most people though. Notts' Stuart Broad has just finished his second over of the morning, up against his England captain Joe Root, and there is swing. Root's played and missed twice, including going for an expansive cover drive.

Luke Fletcher, maybe the pick of the bowlers yesterday, is operating from the other end. He's had Jonny Tattersall looking a little uncomfortable too.

Root onto 59, Tattersall to 5.

  8. wicket

WICKET Dickson c Hildreth b Davey 43published at 11:14 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Somerset 171 v Kent 87-3

Just the start Somerset wanted after a poor second day. Josh Davey tempts Sean Dickson into the drive, there's just enough swing to take the edge and James Hildreth does the rest at first slip. Simple.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is the new batsman - or DBD, as he is known to text commentators, who don't want to type out hyphenated names.

  9. Somerset look for wicketspublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Somerset 171 v Kent 87-2

Somerset open up with Lewis Gregory and Josh Davey. The former concedes two to Sean Dickson from the opening over, but a leg bye is the only addition in the second. Dickson now just seven short of a half-century.

  10. wicket

WICKET van Zyl c Hill b Taylor 41published at 11:06 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Sussex 262 & 211-3 v Leicestershire 252

The prize for first wicket of the day goes to Leicestershire's Tom Taylor, who has Stiaan van Zyl caught behind - his seventh victim of the game - in the opening over at Hove. Harry Finch comes out to join Luke Wells.

  11. Big task ahead for Cookpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 25-1

Sir Alastair Cook faces the first two balls of the morning at the Ageas Bowl as Kyle Abbott completes the over interrupted by bad light last evening. Both are dots. No addition for Essex yet. It's Fidel Edwards with the cherry from the other end.

  12. Play under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

Three matches in Division One, three matches in Division Two and they're all off on time.

That's pretty good going for 7 April.

Plenty of clouds around though, especially at Trent Bridge where the floodlights are on already...

Nottinghamshire 408 v Yorkshire 206-5 (play resumes at 11:00 BST)

It's finely poised at Trent Bridge, with Yorkshire 202 runs behind Nottinghamshire's first innings total of 408 with five wickets in hand.

South African fast bowler Duanne Olivier, who bowled brilliantly on Saturday morning to return figures of 5-96, was pleased to prevent Nottinghamshire from running away with the match.

“It’s really special to get five wickets in my first Championship match for Yorkshire," he said.

"It’s a very good batting wicket and it took quite a bit of grafting from everyone, but I felt that we pulled it back nicely to keep them at just over 400 because they looked set in stone to get a very big score. Hopefully we can put a few partnerships together and get up to 400 ourselves, or even beyond that.”

  14. Lights on at Wantage Roadpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

Northants 445 v Middlesex 134-7 (match due to resume at 11:00 BST)

There's nothing cricketers like more than sun on their backs. Tough luck for the players of Northamptonshire and Middlesex then.

  16. 'No demons in pitch at Taunton'published at 10:46 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    Somerset 171 v Kent 84-2 (play resumes 1100 BST)

    Jason KerrImage source, Rex Features

Somerset are in a bit of trouble down at Taunton after they were skittled out for 171 by Kent, with Mitchell Claydon taking 5-46.

The visitors replied by reaching the close on 84-2 in their first innings, leaving them 87 runs adrift.

"I think if the guys had that opportunity to bat again they'd certainly apply themselves differently and we're going to have to do that in the second innings," head coach Jason Kerr told BBC Somerset.

"I don't think there are any demons in the wicket and to be fair to the ground staff, with the weather we've had recently they've done a brilliant job to produce what's a good cricket wicket."

Pitch at TauntonImage source, BBC Sport

From BBC Sport commentator Kit Harris: "The Taunton pitch wasn’t all that challenging yesterday (above left), with Somerset’s performance more the result of poor shot selection against the swinging ball.

"Today the pitch is a little lighter and drier (right) but the weather’s still cold and overcast and the home attack will simply need be more patient than the Kent batsmen. We’re still catching up the time lost on day one so there will be 104 overs today, with an extra 10 minutes added to each session."

The match at Derby is moving along like...well, like Grand National runners hurtling towards the first at Aintree....and it's not inconceivable that we could see a result today, weather permitting. Here's BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson with his video preview of day three.

Hampshire 525-8 dec v Essex 25-1, play resumes at 1100 BST

    Sam NortheastImage source, Rex Features

Saturday was another dominant day for Hampshire, who declared on 525-8 against Essex and then picked up the wicket of Nick Browne before bad light ended play.

Former Kent batsman Sam Northeast, who scored 169 for the hosts, says he is feeling more settled in 2019 after a broken finger disrupted his campaign last summer.

“I just hope I don’t break a finger now! It was a strange year, in many ways, last year. I feel more settled this year," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"Hopefully it will be a great year for myself and the club and we can put ourselves into contention in all formats. But first things first; lets come back tomorrow and put ourselves in a winning position."
