This is a used pitch - it was used for yesterday's Australia A men's game against Northants.

hypocaust: England haven't lost a wicket in the powerplay in five of their last seven T20I innings, though would have lost both openers today, if not for WI missed chances.

  3. dropped catch

Wyatt dropped on 17published at 6 overs

    Eng 37-0

Another drop! Wyatt tries to go over mid-off, it's a straightforward catch and Chinelle Henry can't hold on.

West Indies' body language is not good at this stage. It'll be even worse after Amy Jones shows Wyatt how it's done, with a lofted four over mid-off to end the powerplay.

  4. Eng 35-0published at 5.1 overs

    Jones 18, Wyatt 17

New bowler, same action as Stafanie Taylor replaces fellow off-spinner Hayley Matthews. But she drops her first ball too short, and Jones flogs it to cow corner for four.

That's two let-offs for England, both at the hands of the keeper.

The two England batters aren't quite timing it as they'd have hoped.

  6. dropped catch

Wyatt dropped on 14published at 5 overs

    Eng 31-0

Big chance! Danni Wyatt gets a streaky edge, wicketkeeper Kycia Knight snatches at it, gets a glove on the ball but can't hold on and England run a couple.

You're not necessarily sure who will be the happier of the two sides at this stage.

  8. Eng 26-0published at 4 overs

Amy Jones, bat raised high, drives Matthews firmly - and that's better fielding, a good stop by Chinelle Henry restricts her to a single.

But Wyatt comes down the track and blasts Matthews for four over extra cover. She's up to 14 from 11 balls.

  10. Eng 21-0published at 3 overs

    Jones 11, Wyatt 10

Wyatt rocks back on her heels to guide another two to the cover boundary - this time it's well fielded by Chedean Nation on the rope. But Wyatt's not entirely in full flow - playing and missing a couple of times.

Do you think Stafanie Taylor is standing at short fine leg because of her injured finger?

Possibly. If so, it's a big blow for West Indies.

  12. Eng 19-0published at 2.2 overs

Connell, with a little jump at the start of her run-up, is cracked wide of mid-on by Wyatt for her first four, which is loudly cheered by the Northampton crowd.

A more delicate dab for two to third man takes her to eight from four balls.

My mother used to bring the paper and coffee with her, and wouldn't watch until she realised I was batting. Then she wouldn't watch because she was too nervous. Not the greatest of sports watchers, but at least she was there.

  14. Missed stumpingpublished at 2 overs

    Eng 13-0

Danni Wyatt - who tends to prefer facing pace to spin in the early stages of T20 - opens her account with a single down the ground. But West Indies are then let down by Kycia Knight behind the stumps, as she misses a clear stumping chance when Jones is beaten, a yard or two down the wicket.

And I'm afraid to report the outfielding isn't getting any better from West Indies - Afy Fletcher lets one through her legs at mid-on, as England are picking up singles with alacrity.

There's nothing wrong with bowling in a cap. If you're a woman with long hair, it's about practicality. Anyway, Adam Zampa bowls in an Alice band!

  16. Eng 8-0published at 1.1 overs

But it will be spin from the other end - off-spin from Hayley Matthews, who characteristically keeps her cap in place to bowl. Jones knocks a single to leg to bring Wyatt on strike for the first time.

I think the families of the England players are just in front of us. I can see Danni Wyatt's father, and Nat Sciver's family.

I can't understand why Stafanie Taylor has put herself at short fine leg, she's one of their best fielders. And Hayley Matthews, another brilliant fielder, is at mid-wicket.

  19. Eng 7-0published at 1 over

West Indies' fielding rather let them down in some of the ODIs - and it's more of the same here as a juggling fumble by Natasha McLean grants Jones a second run through the leg side. She rounds off the over with a single to the cover sweeper.

Jones has been really good to watch. She's very much been in the shadow of Sarah Taylor for the majority of her career, but she's an elegant batter, driving the ball a lot like Ian Bell. Now she's been given that opportunity by Mark Robinson, she's been exciting.
