Sneakily thought to check the cricket score while in the office. Saw India were 5-3 and audibly gasped in shock. I looked up to see all my colleagues looking at me in confusion. Hastily mumbled an excuse then ran to make a cup of tea and check my phone to see if it was really true!

It is the first time in all international cricket, men's and women's, that the top three have all been out for one.

Pant only knows one way to play. He will play his shots. He has got in and now I am sure he will take the attack to the New Zealanders.

India need one of these two to get through to 35 or 40 overs and allow Pandya and Dhoni to play their natural way.

  6. Ind 13-3published at 8 overs

    Pant 7, Karthik 0

Matt Henry is perhaps straining a bit too much in search of more wickets, sending down a bouncer that's called wide on height and a wide one that Rishabh Pant angles away for a couple.

Better from Henry as Pant then has to play out three dot balls to finish the over.

Trent Boult is someone who steps up on the big occasion. He always seems to turn up and do the business.

    Target 240

And Trent Boult sends down a sublime maiden.

The last is a wicked yorker that Dinesh Karthik misses but is fortunate to see the ball also miss the stumps.

Karthik remains scoreless after facing 16 deliveries.

Good stroke from Pant. That will give him some confidence. Henry was just going in search of wickets.

Ilyas Najib: Is Virat Kohli a real big game batsman? Three World Cup semi finals and his scores are... nine, one & one. That suggests no he isn’t. Throw in his score of five against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final and it doesn’t look so rosy for Mr Kohli.

  14. Ind 10-3published at 6 overs

    Pant 5, Karthik 0

Matt Henry strays too full and a bit wide and Rishabh Pant drives it square to the fence.

The India fans roar in appreciation of the first boundary. Lovely shot.

Sentences you didn't think you'd type: in the second day of a one-day international, India fans are cheering Dinesh Karthik's forward defensive.

  18. Ind 6-3published at 4.3 overs

Dinesh Karthik shoulders arms...to Trent Boult who is swinging the ball back in to the right hander.

He's hit on the hip but has got very far forward so it's still quite low. Massive appeal - not given.

New Zealand decide not to send it upstairs. That was perhaps sliding just past off stump. Height might have been an issue too.

Matt Henry completes a wicket maiden.

Our Matt Henry is very proud of his namesake.

It's nearly half 10 at night in New Zealand right now - stay up, folks!
