My goodness, what a night we've had.

Four washouts and a fifth game abandoned, but a tense finish at Durham and one of the most astonishing displays of batsmanship you'll ever see from Cameron Delport at Chelmsford.

That's all for tonight - we'll have a round-up of Friday's action on our website shortly, plus radio commentary of two more matches tomorrow.

    Enjoy your evening!

    Breaking

    Essex 226-4 (15 overs) v Surrey 174-7 (15 overs)

The over concludes after another ball is lost into the flats.

I think that is five balls lost over the course of the match.

Surrey made a valiant effort in their chase, but it was always a forlorn hope after Essex whacked the ball all over the place.

Cameron Delport was the star for the Eagles, with 129 runs from just 49 balls.

    Surrey 165-7 (14.2 overs) v Essex 226-4

Jordan Clark's resistance ends as he puts one high in the sky.

His 45 came from 27 balls, with four sixes.

Tom Westley takes the catch at extra cover under the lights and Shane Snater has his second wicket of the evening.

Surrey captain Jade Dernbach makes his way to the middle for the final throes.

  4. Postpublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 164-6 (14 overs) v Essex 226-4

So Surrey need 63 from the final over to win.

They could do with someone like West Indies legend Garfield Sobers in the middle. And a few no-balls.

I could try and add up the number of sixes we've had in this match but I'd quickly lose count.

Mark Church, BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

We've had 30 sixes so far; 20 from Essex and 10 from Surrey.

    Surrey 152-6 (13 overs) v Essex 226-4

    Surrey bring up the 150.

Rory Burns and Jordan Clark have put on 66 runs for the seventh wicket.

Two overs remain for Essex to see the game out.

  7. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

Just the 86 runs needed from 18 balls now...

  8. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 133-6 (11 overs) v Essex 226-4

Adam Zampa goes for eight runs from his final over and ends with figures of 1-23 from three overs.

With their chances of victory receding, Surrey will be aiming to make it through the final four overs in order to make sure they don't suffer too much damage to their net run-rate.

Mathematically it's still possible - realistically there's no chance.

  10. Postpublished at 22:15 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 125-6 (10 overs) v Essex 226-4

Rory Burns (15 from eight) and Jordan Clark have kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Clark has 34 runs from 14 balls, with four sixes.

That'd be a decent knock, but not in this match.

Just the 102 runs to win from the final five overs.

  11. Postpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 115-6 (9 overs) v Essex 226-4

Jordan Clark ends Simon Harmer's second over with another maximum.

But it's not really enough for Surrey, who now need 112 from six overs.

up for Surreypublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 104-6 (8 overs) v Essex 226-4

    Surrey keep plugging away.

Rory Burns gets a boundary with his first ball and then grabs a single.

Jordan Clark finishes Ravi Bopara's over with back-to-back sixes.

Nineteen runs off the over, but they need to keep going at around 18 an over to have a chance of winning.

There goes the man who was probably Surrey's last hope.

Ravi Bopara beats Aaron Finch with a yorker and the Australian trudges back to the pavilion.

Rory Burns is the next man in and the Surrey chase is rather forlorn now.

    Surrey 85-5 (7 overs) v Essex 226-4

Surrey still going along, with another 12 runs off the seventh over.

But it's still way behind the rate.

They need 142 from 48 balls to win this 15-over game.

  16. Postpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 73-5 (6 overs) v Essex 226-4

Surrey come back with two sixes after losing Tom Curran, as Aaron Finch moves on to 33 not out from 14 balls.

The required rate is now up to over 17 runs an over.

    Surrey 57-5 (5.1 overs) v Essex 226-4

    There goes another one.

Shane Snater went for 19 runs in his first over but picks up his first wicket with the first ball of his second.

Tom Curran joins his brother and three other Surrey batsmen back in the pavilion as he is caught by Varun Chopra.

Australia captain Aaron Finch is still out there in the middle and Jordan Clark joins him.

    Surrey 57-4 (5 overs) v Essex 226-4

Adam Zampa concedes a four to compatriot Aaron Finch before the powerplay ends midway through the over.

Finch takes two, then hits a big six into the river over long on.

Then he cuts through backward point for another four and is now up to 24 not out.

Surrey need 170 to win from 10 overs. Gulp.

  19. Postpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 41-1 (4 overs) v Essex 226-4

New batsman Tom Curran gets off the mark with a four.

The good news for Surrey is that Aaron Finch is still there, but he's only faced five balls for his eight runs, and doesn't have much wriggle room.

  20. Postpublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Surrey 32-4 (3.1 overs) v Essex 226-4

Aaron Finch survives the hat-trick delivery from Matthew Quinn.

That is nine balls without a run for Surrey.
