Liam Trevaskis comes in to bowl some slow left-arm orthodox. Northants need a boundary and Trevaskis tosses the ball up, but Alex Wakely misreads it and is clean bowled.
Northants need 8.47 runs an over now.
Essex 38-1 (4 overs) v Surrey
Cameron Delport decided to attack Sam Curran, with two lofted on drives.
The first goes for a one-bounce four but the second is bigger and goes all the way for six.
Then he drives through mid-off for another four.
Curran responds well with two dot balls - a full toss and a short ball, which might have been wide.
Essex opener Delport now has 22 runs from 13 balls.

Essex are making steady progress, with Cameron Delport and Tom Westley both having struck a boundary apiece.
Sam Curran's first over went for 13 runs, although he picked up the wicket of Varun Chopra.

The sky's getting brighter and so is Northants' run chase. Adam Rossington hits his second six of the innings and follows it up with a classy four.

Varun Chopra hits the first boundary of the innings through the covers off the bowling of Sam Curran.
Two balls later and he top edges a catch to the third man fielder.
A decent start for Surrey, and Tom Westley is the new man in.

We haven't had much play so far today, but AB de Villiers was the star in Middlesex's opening-night win and there were notable performances elsewhere from Somerset's Tom Banton and Worcestershire's Moeen Ali - read all about them here.
