He was caught on the crease, going back and across, and the ball just nipped back on him. A good delivery.

    OUT!

The ball-tracking shows it would have hit the top of off. It's a good decision from umpire Joel Wilson.

Chris Woakes gets a big and much needed breakthrough for England.

GIVEN! Chris Woakes traps Travis Head lbw.

After a long, long chat with Smith he reviews.

    It looked high to me...

Glenn McGrath says he has a few ideas on how to get Steve Smith out - but he won't tell us until the fifth Test.

  11. Aus 98-3published at 32 overs

    Smith 29, Head 35

Steve Smith leaves a ball outside off stump and in his unconventional style turns right around to reveal the number 49 on his back. The numbers on the back of these Test shirts are not to everyone's liking but I quite like it.

For all of his unorthodox mannerisms, Smith still looks worryingly untroubled.

We might end up seeing Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow having a whirl...

  13. Aus 95-3published at 31 overs

    Smith 26, Head 35

Outside off stump looks to be the way to bowl to Travis Head today. He has looked comfortable off his hip but then flirts with one at the end of Chris Woakes' over outside off.

Jonny Bairstow tosses the ball in the air behind the stumps, getting me a little excited, but it's more frustration than celebration.

The ball is making a disconcertingly thudding noise.

  15. Aus 93-3published at 30.4 overs

Where's Liam Plunkett? He nips in with his cross seamers now doesn't he and bags a few wickets?

This ball may only be 30 overs old but it isn't doing a lot off the pitch.

That made a lovely crack off the bat.

Ah. That balloon of England optimism if popped by an excellent drive from Head. It beats mid-on before running away for four.

Here we go. Broad beats Travis Head's bat. The crowd erupts into a loud round of applause to try and be the 12th man.

  20. Aus 88-3published at 29.2 overs

    Excellent fielding!

Well done Chris Woakes. He breaks the nervous hush with a diving stop at mid-off. Without the good work Head would have got four.
