England have been more conventional today and it's meant that New Zealand have not been allowed to get away.

In the next session, when New Zealand reach 140-150 ahead, they may start to attack more and that's when England could pick up wickets.

But New Zealand have the upper hand.

I would usually recap the morning session now but there isn't much to update you with.

England bowled tighter and fuller. New Zealand patiently tapped it around. Just 58 runs added.

It's masterful stuff from the hosts in the context, but not the most enthralling cricket to watch.

New Zealand should just keep doing exactly what they are doing.

It's been an attritional game and fittingly it is the high priest of efficiency, BJ Watling, who has scored the only century so far.

    Cheers Callum.

What are wickets? Does anyone remember wickets?

    Sigh.

England have gone wicketless for the second time in three sessions. That's the 30th time they've not taken a wicket in a session since the start of 2017.

They have bowled better today and been a bit luckless but it's really not good enough.

Beautifully played. Of its type, this is an absolute mastercraft of an innings.

    Four to end the session.

It's a bit short from Jofra Archer and BJ Watling guides it past gully for his 19th boundary.

That will be lunch. The lead is 99.

Jofra Archer adds another name to a quickly growing list of batsmen that he's hit on the helmet.

  13. ouch!

Joff fires a bouncer down at 87mph but BJ Watling plays it excellently, ending up on both knees as he weaves out the way.

Oh, Jofra Archer has hit Watling on the helmet! It didn't get up as high as Watling expected and it glances off the keeper's helmet and away to fine leg. Bruce Oxenford calls dead ball and for the physio.

Watling seems OK though, he's having a laugh with Mithell Santner.

This is more than likely going to be a draw.

But if New Zealand can start to accelerate a bit and can afford to lose wickets as they are so much ahead, it puts England under pressure.

Even then, it looks like if you get through the initial part of your innings then it's very hard to get out on this pitch.

You could've batted on this, Aggers.

    Lead by 95

    Three from the over.

England are probably an over, or at max two, away from going wicketless in a session for the second time in three sessions. There are few words.

Sam Curran continues and BJ Watling drives through the covers for two more.

That takes him to 143* - his highest Test score. Well batted.

Jack: Re Francis Edwards (23:27)... Someone has a very short memory, Mason Crane, Scott Borthwick, Zafar Ansari, Dom Bess, Simon Kerrigan, Samit Patel, James Tredwell, Ian Blackwell - good pros all of them but none of these England Test spinners are as good as Jack Leach.

    A maiden from Jofra Archer.

He's bowled 14 in the innings now.

There's just under 10 minutes till lunch. Can England get a wicket?

England have two fielders out on the hook for Mitchell Santner.

Mitchell Santner has not played a hook shot in his entire innings.
