When Stuart Broad said he expected England to save the game today earlier, did he just momentarily forget that Cook, Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Collingwood and Prior weren't ahead of him in the order?

Ollie Pope's shot for his dismissal is the second-worst way I've ever seen a batsman get out when trying to save a Test.

Shannon 'Why did he do that?' Gabriel still in first place given there were just seven balls to go when he hacked a delivery from Yasir Shah into his stumps.

Seek the clips of both out.

CrickBait: Five absolute stonkers. Burns skies one, Root plays a mad shot, Pope chases a legitimate wide, Leach doesn’t review a catch he didn’t hit and Buttler leaves the straightest ball ever bowled. An undisputed masterclass in cricket comedy.

    Cheers Callum.

    England are terrible, terrible tourists.

Everyone else on the cricket desk here has just gone for a break. That or to check whether there are any pubs around here still open. (There aren't).

That was a hugely disappointing session for England. Joe Denly got a good ball but the other three dismissals were all batsman error.

I'm going to hand over to Jack Skelton who will take you through to the end of the game, whenever that may be.

England were 65-4 in that session including a spell of 3-6 in just under six overs.

New Zealand are deservedly closing in.

Santner beats Sam Curran's outside edge before Curran blocks out the final delivery.

That will be tea. New Zealand need two more wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Replays show it would have been missing anyway.

Yep, Santner has balled a no-ball and Sam Curran survives.

It's pretty poor for a spinner to bowl a no-ball.

    Oh. It's a no-ball!

This looks like Mitchell Santner has overstepped.

I don't think it was close. This is a brave review.

Hmmm, Sam Curran offers no shot to one.

New Zealand appeal, umpire Oxenford says no and Kane Williamson decides to review.

Wagner passed on an observation or two to Archer there.

  19. Eng 160-8published at 85 overs

Jofra Archer brings out a big booming drive and Kane Williamson does well to get across at mid-off and keep it to a couple.

Neil Wagner digs one in and Archer lets it go by before having a little chirp at Wagner. "You wait for Hamilton" - something along those lines I imagine.

Oh Jof, it may be time to put the drive away. He throws his hands at another wide one but misses by a good four inches.

Another drive from Archer and it flies off the outside edge and away for four.

Keith Lawton: I still can't believe how flat England looked on that third day. Such a chance to grab the game by the throat. Really worrying going forward.
