  1. Close of play at Ageas Bowlpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset 30-2

For a while it looked like we might get back out there before stumps but the light really is terminal this time.

The match is delicately poised with no player bar Liam Dawson (103) able to make a big score to date in a game Somerset must win to stay ahead of Essex at the top of the Division One table.

  2. Five-wicket haul for Duanne Olivierpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 454-7

Of course he'd have wanted (and expected) that fifth wicket sooner after Yorkshire were all over Kent this morning - but still a great effort from the pace man.

20.5 overs, two maidens and five for 93.

  3. Bad light at Chelmsfordpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Essex v Surrey 137-4

They've done well to get in as much play as they have done, but it's too gloomy at Essex now and they're going off.

That could well be it for the day.

  4. wicket

WICKET Billings c Lyth b Olivier 138published at 17:37 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 454-7

    A wicket for Yorkshire!

Sam Billings steps back and tries to drive Duanne Olivier through the off side...

Caught by Adam Lyth. That's 5-93 for the bowler.

    Harry Podmore to bat next.

  5. Yorkshire toil at Headingleypublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 453-6

Sam Billings is ready to go again after that blow and survives a leading edge which drops short of Adam Lyth.

At the other end we have an inspection by the umpires after worries about the ball being knocked out of shape.

Umpire Michael Gough rushes off the field to get some spares...

    10 overs left tonight.

Incredible though it is, 500 before stumps is possible.

  6. Postpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Essex v Surrey 133-4

Ben Foakes squirts Jamie Porter through point for his sixth boundary and moves into the 30s.

There's still around 45 minutes play left, light depending.

  7. 'T20 innings from Rossington'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Northants 217 v Durham 30-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Northants skipper Adam Rossington turned this into a T20 encounter as he decided attack was the best form of defence with wickets falling at the other end.

He hit seven sixes and six fours as he blazed his way to 82 before eventually falling to a catch at deep point off the bowling of Matt Salisbury. Importantly he got his side to a batting point which didn’t look likely on a seaming pitch when they were 150-8.

Chris Rushworth and Ben Raine did the damage with the ball as Rushworth took 5-58 to move him onto 67 championship wickets. It was the 25th five-for of his career. And Raine finished with 3-53 to reach 50 wickets in a season for just the second time.

Durham lost Cameron Steel for six in the sixth over, as he edged Ben Sanderson to Brett Hutton in the slips.

  8. ouch!

Billings felled by Fisherpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 453-6

A reminder that we're off for bad light at Southampton but we have autumnal sunshine at Headingley.

Sam Billings is nearly cut in half by Matt Fisher as the ball jags in sharply and the batsman sinks to the ground.

I think that hit him in between the knee rolls.

  9. Maximum batting points for Nottspublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Notts 402-6 v Warwickshire

It's been a rarity this season, but relegated Notts go past 400 to bring up five batting bonus points.

Six overs to go at Trent Bridge.

  10. Wickets tumblepublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Division Two latest

Sussex and Middlesex have both lost three quick wickets in their respective games against Derbyshire and champions Lancashire.

Sussex are 25-3 in reply to Derbyshire's 138 all out, while Middlesex have slumped to 15-3, replying to Lancashire's 259. Dig in fellas!

  11. Kent in charge after Darren Stevens double centurypublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 450-6

He scored 237! We'll be talking about that a lot.

Ollie Rayner chops down on an attempted yorker from Olivier and squeezes it to fine leg for four runs.

Another four off a thick outside edge wide of third slip and down to third man.

Kent have reached 450 in the 84th over.

  12. Bad light stops play at Ageas Bowl (again)published at 17:18 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset 30-2

Just the seven runs added by Tom Abell and James Hildreth and the umpires are taking the players off again.

Most of the fielders are staying outside. We could be back on at any moment at this rate.

More light meter readings from the umpires.

  13. Play resumes at Ageas Bowlpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset 23-2

A very stop-start late afternoon here at Southampton.

Tom Abell and James Hildreth are back in the middle.

    Kyle Abbott to bowl...

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

Here's the state of play in our second division games so far...

Glamorgan reached 250-3 against Leicestershire at Cardiff before rain halted play.

Samit Patel is 61 not out.

Sussex dismissed Derbyshire for 138 and the visitors are 23-2 in reply after both openers fell to Luis Reece.

Middlesex dismissed new champions Lancashire for 259 at Old Trafford and are now 244 behind on 15-0.

Liam Livingstone top-scored for the hosts with 84.

At Northampton, Northants slipped from 99-1 to 217 all out against Durham with Chris Rushworth taking 5-68.

Ben Sanderson has dismissed Cameron Steel for seven and the visitors are 18-1.

Gloucestershire are 45-2 after bowling Worcestershire out for 221 at New Road.

  15. Postpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Essex v Surrey 119-4

Ben Foakes has indeed started very well.

The England wicketkeeper has boshed five fours in moving to 23 off just 17 balls.

Will Jacks is with him at the other end.

  16. 'Essex on top'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Essex v Surrey 118-4

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Sam Cook’s double strike after tea has put Essex on top here after both Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith had looked set for significant scores.

Essex will feel they might have had more than Jamie Porter’s two wickets in the afternoon session and will now be happier with the match situation.

This looks like playing much like the other Chelmsford pitches this season so there should be plenty in it for the bowlers throughout.

From here they will want to bowl Surrey out for less than 200. But Ben Foakes has started very well.

  17. new ball

New ball taken by Yorkshirepublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 421-6

I doubt anyone at Headingley would've believed that Kent could got 400-plus after losing 5-39 this morning.

Two slips are in for Ollie Rayner. Duanne Olivier to bowl.

  18. Yorkshire remove Stevens but Billings carries on the attackpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 420-6

More punishment for Ajaz Patel as Sam Billings smashes the spinner through cover for fours off successive deliveries.

Two more runs off the third ball. Patel has gone for 114 in just 15 overs.

  19. wicket

WICKET Evison lbw b Brookes 45published at 16:59 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Notts 382-6 v Warwickshire

A fine debut for 17-year-old Joey Evison comes to an end.

The teenager is trapped lbw by Henry Brookes for 45. It came off just 54 deliveries with nine fours.

  20. Bad light delays play at Ageas Bowlpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset 23-2

A reminder that play has stopped for the time being at Southampton.
