    Essex v Surrey 74-2

Jamie Smith and Ollie Pope are grinding it out for Surrey.

They've been ticking along at little more than two an over for more than an hour now.

Essex will want more wickets, but they'll be pleased they've kept things tight. At least they don't have to bowl to Darren Stevens I guess.

  3. Play resumes at Headingleypublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Yorks v Kent 316-5

An amazing turnaround for Kent, who have recovered from 39-5 (and 112-5 at lunch) to a record partnership for the sixth wicket against Yorkshire.

The unbroken partnership of 277 is also the highest ever stand for the sixth wicket at Headingley.

Even Kent's record sixth wicket partnership of 315 (set by Aravinda de Silva and Mark Ealham against Notts at Trent Bridge in 1995) could be under threat here.

Darren Stevens resumes on 191 with his captain Sam Billings on 87.

  4. Bad light stops play at Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset 17-1

Big appeal by Keith Barker for caught behind off Steven Davies.

The slips all agreed. The umpire did not.

It's pretty gloomy here and the umpires have decided to take them off.

Now the umpires are back on to take a light reading. No players though.

Nothing to see here, folks. Just the 11 wickets in little more than two sessions of play.

Kyle Abbott gets one to hoop in to Murali Vijay - who plays all round it and is struck on the pad.

    That's plumb.

    Essex v Surrey 65-2

You feel this is a big conclusion to the season for Ollie Pope, having missed most of it through injury.

He'll have high hopes of making England's winter tours to New Zealand and South Africa.

The 21-year-old guides a sharp lifter from Aaron Beard behind point to move up to 14. It was aerial but he kept his eye on it beautifully.

At the other end Ajaz Patel is belted over mid-wicket for another Stevens six!

    He's on 182 and that's the Kent 300. The partnership is a whopping 265.

  19. Tea and between innings at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Hants 196 v Somerset

That's an early tea so we'll get back to this one in 20 minutes.

Hampshire miss out on a batting point by four runs.

It would've been a much bigger margin without Liam Dawson's 103, though.

How crucial is that going to be for their hopes of a top three finish?

They began this game in fourth, five points behind Yorkshire.

  20. Sussex bowlers shinepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Division Two latest

Promotion contenders Sussex have reduced Derbyshire to 105-8 now, with the bowlers sharing the wickets around.

Fellow promotion hopefuls Glamorgan are ticking along nicely against Leicestershire - they're 172-2 with David Lloyd just bringing up his half-century.

Leaders Lancashire need five points against Middlesex to win the title - they've got one of those already having reached 203-7.

Worcestershire are 188-7 against neighbours Gloucestershire, while they're still off at a drizzly Northants where the hosts are 133-5 against fellow promotion hopefuls Durham.
