Essex gave up their right, as the away side, to bowl first, but that is what they will be doing as Somerset have won the toss and chosen to bat.

Some very interesting team news, with Somerset bringing in England's Jack Leach as one of three spin bowlers in their side. He replaces seamer Josh Davey in the only change to the XI for last weeks' defeat by Hampshire.

Essex also make on change with slow left-armer Aron Nijjar making his first Championship appearance of the season in place of Aaron Beard.

Somerset: Vijay, Davies, Abell (c), Hildreth, Banton, Bartlett, Gregory, Bess, C Overton, van der Merwe, Leach.

Essex: Browne, A Cook, Westley, Lawrence, Bopara, ten Doeschate (c), Wheater, Harmer, Nijjar, S Cook, Porter.

Not only is the County Championship title at stake for Somerset and Essex this week - they also have opportunity to end the season as double winners.

It seems like a distant memory now, but Somerset lifted the One-Day Cup at Lord's back in May after a six-wicket victory over Hampshire. Set a target of 245, they reached it with 39 balls to spare, thanks mainly to Tom Banton (69) and James Hildreth (69 not out).

Essex, meanwhile, collected silverware just two days ago at Edgbaston as they beat Worcestershire by four-wickets in the T20 Blast final.

Having beaten Derbyshire earlier in the day in their semi-final, Essex restricted the 2018 winners to 145-9 and reached 148-6 off the final ball of the game as Simon Harmer struck the winning boundary.

Essex have a 12 point lead at the top of the table - so it's advantage to them at the moment.

But it's all about the victory. Who wants it the most?
