That's the end of day one in the final round of County Championship games for 2019.

Most of them were affected by rain and bad light, none more so than the title decider at Taunton where Essex reduced Somerset to 75-4 before the weather intervened.

Batting highlights of the day were unbeaten centuries for Yorkshire's Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Scott Borthwick of Surrey, while Lancashire's Richard Gleeson (6-43) and Hampshire Keith Barker (5-48) produced the best figures.

Not a bad day from Durham's point of view.

Glamorgan, looking for early wickets, didn't really get them.

As expected, bad light has ended play early with nine overs lost tonight.

The high point of the day for Glamorgan came in the 12th over when the hosts were 33-2.

Even though the promotion chasers have picked up two bonus points since then and had better weather than third-placed Gloucestershire at Bristol, they remain a long way short of forcing a result in this game.

Frustration may well be compounded by a worsening forecast tomorrow.

Michael Hogan was the pick of the bowlers with 4-31 and BJ Watling has been the batting linchpin with 83 not out in more than four hours of resistance.

Jonny Bairstow is left out of England's squad for the Tests in New Zealand, while uncapped quartet Matthew Parkinson, Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley and Saqib Mahmood are called up.

The umpires abandon play for the day as what looks like a prolonged shower settles in at Canterbury.

Hampshire will be happy with their day's work despite the loss of three wickets, having bowled out Kent in just 43.5 overs with Keith Barker claiming 5-48 - his first 'five-for' for the county.

Darren Stevens did his best to bowl Kent back into the game, picking up the wickets of Felix Organ and Tom Alsop, but Sam Northeast and James Vince are the not out batsmen and their partnership could be key to Hampshire's hopes of a sizeable first-innings lead.

Just two points separate the teams, with third place in Division One at stake.
