  1. Gloucsester four down at Bristolpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 51-4 v Northants

Bracewell bowls very wide of the off stump and Charlesworth leaves.

Charlesworth nudges the next ball to square leg for one and Hankins defends.

This is a mini recovery for Gloucester after losing four for 32 this morning.

At the other end - Ben Charlesworth drives Hutton for four through wide mid-off to bring up the team 50.

WICKET Banton lbw Harmer 0published at 11:51 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Somerset 61-4 v Essex

Tom Banton goes right back on his stumps, the ball turns sharply and that is a formality for the umpire.

Suddenly, Somerset are on the ropes - and this is very reminiscent of their first-innings batting effort at Hampshire last week, except it was paceman Kyle Abbott who did all the damage at the Ageas Bowl.

  3. wicket

WICKET Hildreth lbw Harmer 32published at 11:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Somerset 61-3 v Essex

With the rain clouds gathering, Simon Harmer strikes a huge blow for Essex as he beats James Hildreth's attempted flick to leg from round the wicket and the umpire raises the finger.

That's a first bowling point for Essex - so their lead over Somerset is now 13.

Tom Banton is the new batsman.

  4. Northants turn to Bracewellpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 43-4 v Northants

A change of bowling. Doug Bracewell is coming on.

George Hankins defends a couple of short balls with a high elbow block.

The third ball is nudged to square leg for one.

A Bracewell no-ball follows. Richard Levi moves from gully to slip.

Charlesworth defends and then picks up a sharp single off the last ball.

  5. Somerset 61-2 v Essexpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Abell 16, Hildreth 31

A big moment for left-arm spinner Aron Nijjar, who comes on for his first bowl in this season's Championship.

His last first-class appearance was against Cambridge MCCU back in March, so this is a big test for him and he is put away through mid-wicket for four by James Hildreth as he drops short.

Nijjar has a sort of skip in his delivery stride, which is not something you often see, and his opening over costs seven overs.

  6. Somerset 53-2 v Essexpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Abell 14, Hildreth 25

How close was that? Tom Abell offers no stroke to the final ball of Jamie Porter's latest over and the ball cuts back and just clears the bails. Lucky indeed.

  7. Glamorgan to bowl first at Riversidepublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Durham v Glamorgan

A reminder that this match will begin at 1200 BST after play was delayed by a wet pitch this morning.

A couple for changes for Durham since the penultimate Championship round.

Sol Bell will make his debut for the hosts while Nathan Rimmington will replace Matt Salisbury.

    For Glamorgan...

  8. Somerset 52-2 v Essexpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Abell 14, Hildreth 24

James Hildreth is certainly not one of those batsmen who regards foot movement as no more than an occasional part of his technique. He is making full use of the crease to try and negate the threat of Simon Hamer's off-spin. Just a single from that over, flicked away off the hip by the experienced right-hander.

  9. Division Two updatepublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

Away from Bristol and the Riverside, here's the latest in our Division Two games:

Lancashire chose to bowl first at Grace Road and they've taken early Leicestershire wickets.

Colin Ackermann was the last player dismissed - caught by Liam Livingstone off Richard Gleeson for a duck.

Gleeson now has 3-22. The hosts are 50-3.

Middlesex are 35-1 at home against Derbyshire.

Nick Gubbins was caught behind off Luis Reece for a duck.

Rain delayed play at Hove between Sussex and Worcestershire - where only seven balls were bowled beforehand.

But that was enough to dislodge Luke Wells - who was caught behind off Ed Barnard for a duck.

Sussex have resumed batting now and are 32-3 - with Tom Haines and Will Beer both falling since the resumption.

  10. Division One round-uppublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

Heino Kuhn is the latest Kent batsman dismissed by Hampshire, caught off Keith Barker for 13 - and they are 41-4 in the 14th over at Canterbury.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is 44 not out at Edgbaston, where Yorkshire are racing along on 70-0 in the 16th over against Warwickshire.

Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick have posted a half-century opening partnership for Surrey, who are 63-0 in the 15th against relegated Notts.

  11. Gloucestershire struggling after steady startpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 39-4 v Northants

This has all gone pear-shaped for Gloucestershire.

Some very good bowling to dislodge three of the top order but there was also a gifted run out to dislodge the Gloucester captain Chris Dent.

Ben Sanderson brings one into Charlesworth but the ball evades the edge.

George Hankins is the not out batsman at the other end.

Shot! A full length ball is driven through mid off for four.

  13. Somerset 50-2 v Essexpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Abell 14, Hildreth 22

Simon Harmer really does flight the ball beautifully - it's no wonder he is one of the most talked-about players on the county circuit.

There's a couple of Tom Abell, but it's another tidy over by the Essex spinner.

  14. 60 Championship wickets for Ben Sandersonpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 32-4 v Northants

The wicket of Gareth Roderick takes Ben Sanderson to an impressive milestone for 2019.

  15. Somerset 45-2 v Essexpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Abell 12, Hildreth 21

After a spell of six overs, four maidens, 2-2, Sam Cook is given a breather by Essex as Jamie Porter returns to the attack from the opposite end to where he began the game.

His opening delivery is pushed away square by Tom Abell who adds four to the total.

Porter has taken 48 wickets so far this season, considerably down on the 75 he contributed to Essex's 2017 title win and 58 last summer.

He adjusts his length and goes past the edge of James Hildreth's bat - that's more like it, Jamie.

  16. wicket

WICKET Roderick c Rossington b Sanderson 2published at 11:25 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 32-4 v Northants

A serene first hour and a disastrous second half an hour for Gloucestershire.

Gareth Roderick is across but barely forward to Ben Sanderson to defend and that's a thin edge through to the Northants captain-keeper Adam Rossington.

Ben Charlesworth is at the crease now and surely earlier than he would've expected.

    Durham v Glamorgan

While that Gloucester-Northants game is gathering apace, here's an update on our other promotion contender Glamorgan - who play Durham today.

WICKET Dent run out (Procter)published at 11:22 British Summer Time 23 September 2019

    Gloucs 30-3 v Northants

Direct hit from Luke Procter and Chris Dent is gone - running to the danger end as Roderick calls his captain through for a risky run after a nudge into the off side.

That's the first bonus point for Northants.
