I saw South Africa commentator Natalie Germanos at tea and asked her if she was feeling confident of a draw. She said: "This pitch is going to sleep, but with De Kock you never know as he’s prone to do something silly."
The replays of Quinton de Kock's reaction to his dismissal are brilliant. He dropped to his haunches and stared into the distance. "I cannot believe I've done that. To Joe Denly!"
The Barmies have got renewed energy. It is never, ever boring watching England. What a finish we have in store.

What a ridiculous waste of a review. I hope that doesn't come back to bite England.
SA 237-6
Elbow. England burn their last review, getting caught up in the moment. Remember Headingley and how that cost Australia?
25 overs remain.

England seem confident but that's nowhere near.
SA 237-6
This looks like a shocking review...

Two in an over?
New man Vernon Philander shoulders arms and the ball pops up to silly point. Has it run up the body and taken the glove?
This would be remarkable.

South Africa had to phone a taxi to get De Kock off there.

Quinton de Kock cannot drag himself away from the pitch. A horrible ball. The Barmies are singing again.
De Kock c Crawley b Denly 50 (SA 237-6)
No way. You cannot believe Quinton de Kock has just done this.
It's an absolute pie from Joe Denly, the longest of long-hops. De Kock, who has been the picture of self-denial, can't resist.
He swivels on the pull, but doesn't get over the ball. It goes straight to Zak Crawley at short mid-wicket.
England dream again. Whatever you have been doing for the victory effort, keep doing it.

Nick James: 6-day Test cricket, anyone?
Here's Joe Denly. Root shuffling the pack. This pair have been together for 33 overs.

That's a beautiful leg cutter.
26 overs left
Finally, a batsman is beaten. Length from Broad, fingers rolled across the seam, Van der Dussen done with a leg-cutter that could have been delivered by the great SF Barnes. VDD retreats further into his shell. If the bat is raised any lower, it won't get off the floor.

This is the last throw of the dice for England.
Predictably, and sensibly, James Anderson is being replaced by Stuart Broad.

That is Quinton de Kock's slowest Test fifty - 103 balls.
His previous slowest was off 100 balls.
SA 237-5
The Barmy Army are singing, Jos Buttler is England's cheerleader-in-chief. It looks like Curran is bowling off-cutters, but De Kock isn't interesting in anything other than defence. The pitch, so lively on the first two days, is flatter than hour-old lager. Are South Africa Test cricket's biggest masters of the rearguard? De Kock goes to 50 from 103 balls, his slowest in Test cricket.
