The fluency of which Pope scores is something that comes naturally to him. He always retains an intent to score which allows him to move in a positive way.

Test, ODI and T20, Smith can do it all.

I've got myself thinking which cricketers I'd trust most with my money now.

  3. Smith stars in Sixers winpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2020

Earlier on today, a little known Australian named Steve Smith guided his Sydney Sixers to a seven-wicket win over Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash.

Smith made an unbeaten 66 as the Sixers, who also include James Vince, chased 176 with eight balls to spare.

The Sixers are second in the table, just behind Melbourne Stars, who are currently playing Adelaide Strikers.

AB de Villiers, who will keep wicket in top-level cricket for the first time in four years, is at the crease for the Strikers. You can follow that match here.

Good point, Lee. I bet if they went on Dragons Den they'd come away with money. They're thoroughly impressive young men. The type you'd trust with your money.

As I write that, Pope drives magnificently for four. He's a player.

Catch that! The curse of the live-text commentator almost strikes. Hendricks bangs one in to Ollie Pope and it gets quite big on the batsman. He still upper cuts but gets more air than intended and hits the ball just wide of the diving fielder at deep point.

Pope has shown, as he has done all series, that he has many scoring areas. But he's been very watchful when he's needed to. This series he has played absolutely brilliant, just fantastic to watch. It's really exciting to see a young player who knows his game.

Bradman, Tendulkar and Ian Bell all rolled into one?

Root, momentarily distracted by some sort of insect, gets right forward to solidly defend a delivery from Philander. It has been probing stuff from South Africa but Root and Pope have had the answers so far.

Pitched outside leg: Looking at Jos Buttler's batting stats in the series, they're not much different from Joe Denly's. But the only talk of losing place on batting performances is about Buttler, not Denly, despite Denly batting three. For what it's worth, I wouldn't drop either actually.

Rob Meech: The more I see of Ollie Pope the more I’m convinced he’s the new Don Bradman. No pressure, Ollie.

Blimey. There's a fella at the top of one of the floodlights with a camera taking some amazing shots for the TV. That is one place I would not want to be.

    The fifty partnership is up.

Ollie Pope does cut it through backward point very well, South Africa should either not bowl there or have a deep backward point or third man.

But it is just heavenly watching Pope bat.

Ollie Pope is outscoring Joe Root and looks to be in his groove quicker than the England captain this morning. There's only a little bit of width on offer from Hendricks but Pope is still able to back cut for four again. Lovely shot.

England Under-19s are in World Cup action again today against Nigeria, who slipped to 19-3 and had opener Elijah Olaleye retire injured.

England's hopes of winning the competition are over after defeats by West Indies and Australia, but they will now go into the plate competition.

Twice Vernon Philander hits Ollie Pope on the pad but you're going to have to be very full on this bouncy pitch to get an lbw. Chances are the ball will be going over the top.

The Bullring is by no means full, it's pretty empty in fact, but those that are here sense the moment with Philander making this ball move a little.

Pope is unflustered and flicks a couple to bring up the England 200.

There's a little bit of swing out there, which surprises me as the ball is only 57 overs old.

It's a little warmer here, there are more breaks in the clouds, the rain stopped earlier. So maybe that's why.

For a large part of yesterday South Africa were flat in my opinion. I was surprised there wasn't more hostility. Beuran Hendricks zips a good bouncer past Joe Root early today and then gives him a good ol' stare.

The thing that has been so impressive is the young players have learned a lot. They have learned on the job. Sibley is a different player from New Zealand - he has played very, very well through this series. Crawley has got better and better. He has really learned quickly. That is what the best players do - they learn quicker than everybody else.

I was a little surprised that Ollie Pope was starting on 22 runs this morning. I hardly remember him playing a shot last night but that's a sign of a good player. He's always ticking the score over. Joe Root is notoriously excellent at that too.

This first half an hour, we know South Africa will go hard at it. England need to get in, get used to the bounce and see how the ball is reacting.

You've got two players in good form here. If England can bat well in the first 30 minutes then it's about scoring as many as you can.
