I'm pleased that Ben has come out and apologised. But there has to come a point when people aren't allowed to stand and abuse a player. Ben knows he shouldn't have done it - and you can't react in that way.

We don't know the full story about the provocation. And we must remember Stokes' dad is still in hospital; his mum goes to visit him every day. So Stokes has been under a lot of personal pressure. But I would be surprised if some sort of sanction wasn't taken against him.

Yep, there have been reports that the fan who allegedly abused Stokes may have compared the all-rounder's appearance to Ed Sheeren, as well as sending a bit more abuse his way.

No news from the International Cricket Council this morning yet about any possible disciplinary action against Ben Stokes. But the match referee Andy Pycroft has been speaking to some England officials this morning down by the tunnel. They seemed to be pointing at the area where England say spectators abused both Stokes and members of the backroom staff. Last night England managing director Ashley Giles said they would ask for enhanced security because of the “personal abuse” coming from a section of the crowd.

Stokes could be punished for his outburst by the match referee.

Once we get any news from the ICC we'll bring it to you straight away.

Ben Stokes has apologised for his "unprofessional reaction" after an altercation with a member of the crowd yesterday.

The 28-year-old used expletives towards someone as he made his way off the field after being dismissed for two.

"I wish to apologise for my language that was heard on the live broadcast today after my dismissal," Stokes said.

"I should not have reacted in that way."

In a statement released on Friday evening, Stokes said he was "subjected to repeated abuse from the crowd" as he made his way towards the tunnel.

Who had the better of day one?

Just England I reckon.

They posted their first century opening stand for more than three years before losing four quick wickets.

England waited years for an opener and now they may well have three at once.

The good news is that it’s been dry now for half an hour and we should get started fairly soon after the inspection. Forecasts vary wildly again, but local predictions suggest we could get away with no more rain today. In fact, Aggers confidently stated this morning, when I saw him in reception at the hotel umbrella in hand, that after this morning we wouldn’t see any more rain in the match.

Thankfully the rain hasn't been as heavy or as long-lasting as yesterday morning.

For the last 45 minutes or so it has been clear and it is just a matter of waiting for the ground to dry out.

There will be an inspection at 8:00 GMT - the time play should have began - and after that we'll know more.

After an intriguing first day, day two is set up nicely. England will resume on 192-4 in a decent but still precarious position.

Score more runs and they'll be well in the driving seat. Lose a few more quick wickets and South Africa will be well in command.

But sadly, as there was yesterday, there has been some early morning rain in Johannesburg. We're going to have a delayed start.
