  1. Eng 151-5published at 16.5 overs

    Get him in earlier!!!

Moeen follows the six with an excellent four over mid-off.

  2. 6 runs

    Eng 147-5published at 16.4 overs

Has Moeen got enough on this?

    ...

    Yes! Just.

  3. Eng 141-5published at 16.3 overs

England get a bonus three runs with a wide going down towards the boundary before being flicked back by Ngidi.

  4. Eng 138-5published at 16.3 overs

After trying, and failing, to hit a scoop, Stokes turns back to brute strength. He still doesn't middle it on this pitch. It's proving to be tricky with the older ball.

So what lessons have they learned from the last game? This all feels very familiar.

  6. Eng 136-5published at 16 overs

    Stokes 22, Moeen 8

Excellent running from Stokes and Moeen as they get two when the ball didn't leave the 30-yard circle.

England's bowlers will surely have been taking in how effective slower balls have been.

Nathan Wake: Why exactly is Denly in this team ahead of Malan? As a 7th bowling option? England selection and batting order all over the place.

Fenners: Best finisher as opener....a Test number 3 batting at 6, your best batters from Big Bash League not even there.....you couldn't make this stuff up....clueless.

  8. 6 runs

    Eng 133-5published at 15.3 overs

Shot, Mo! When he's good he's really good. Six over mid-wicket from his second ball.

  9. Eng 126-5published at 15.2 overs

England were 90-3 after 10 overs remember. Moeen Ali is now in. He gets a single off his first ball but Stokes would have been run-out had the throw hit.

  10. wicket

    Denly b Phehlukwayo 1 (Eng 125-5)

Errm. It's fair to say the experiment has not worked.

Joe Denly goes in hideous fashion, caught out by a slower ball that he plays onto his stumps off the arm for one.

Denly should stay off Twitter tonight.

  12. Eng 125-4published at 15 overs

    Pretorius 3-0-17-1

Denly makes a classical start with a clip off the pads for one. I'd have sent Moeen Ali in before him, personally.

Here's Joe Denly. He needs a score.

  14. wicket

    Morgan c Bavuma b Pretorius 27 (Eng 123-4)

    Soft.

The slower balls into the pitch are proving hard to hit and Morgan clunks one straight to long-off. Pretorius gets a deserved wicket. England could be stalled again.

  15. 6 runs

    Eng 122-3published at 14.2 overs

Oh Ben Stokes has finally middled one and I mean seriously middled it. The crack off the bat was sensational. Big over mid-wicket.

  17. Eng 115-3published at 14 overs

    Morgan 26, Stokes 11

That's Shamsi done with a very respectable 1-30 from four overs. Six overs to go. That 180 looks a fair way off now but it could be more of a 165 pitch.

  18. dropped catch

    Eng 113-3published at 13.3 overs

Stokes gets away with one! He gets four where he shouldn't and could even have been dismissed. Beuran Hendricks makes a right mess of the fielding in the deep, running in and then yorking himself. The ball goes under Hendricks to the boundary.

  19. Eng 109-3published at 13.2 overs

Tabraiz Shamsi is into his final over. Morgan tries to repeat that slog sweep six from his previous over but doesn't connect properly.

No one should be disputing how good Buttler is at opening. The only question is whether it's better for the team if he bats lower down the order. Personally I prefer him as the finisher in this team just because we have so many other good options at the top.
