    Ind 42-1

It just didn't look right. Missing leg stump by a pretty long way. Rodrigues survives.

This could be a big wicket.

    Another?

Jemimah Rodrigues given out after an Ellyse Perry appeal. This looked leggy to me...

  4. Ind 42-1published at 5 overs

Jemimah Rodrigues arrives at the crease as the crowd sing 'Come on Aussie, come on'. A 19-year-old joins a 16-year-old, making me feel quite old. Just two runs and the wicket from Jonassen's over, halting India's momentum.

That's exactly what Australia wanted. They had no square leg, sweeping's not Mandhana's strength - she should have kept to her natural game. We've only had four overs, I'm not sure she needed to do that.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

Mandhana lbw Jonassen 10 (Ind 41-1)

Australia strike! Jess Jonassen, so dependable, breaks the opening stand with her first legal delivery. Held back from the left-arm spinner, Smriti Mandhana missing with the sweep, not bothering to review.

Australia look a little bit rattled here.

  8. Ind 40-0published at 4 overs

Make that 29 from 14, with Verma tickling to fine leg. Four boundaries from Schutt's over. Australia are being flayed.

  9. Ind 36-0published at 3.4 overs

She's like a one-woman highlight reel. Now it's through the covers. 25 from 13 balls.

  10. Ind 32-0published at 3.2 overs

Now a cut for four. Verma lighting up the first game. India flying.

  11. Ind 28-0published at 3.1 overs

She's at it again! Megan Schutt into the attack, but driven over mid-off. Verma's got 17 from nine balls....

That's what happens in T20 cricket - one good over can get you going.

  13. 6 runs

    Ind 24-0published at 3 overs

Oh, hello! Shafali Verma! Hold the pose! Over long-on for six with no effort at all.

    Remember, she's only 16!

You look at Verma's strike rate and think she must be a slogger, but that was a proper cricket shot.

  15. Ind 17-0published at 2.4 overs

Shafali Verma gives a glimpse of what everyone is so excited about, going inside out to ease Strano over extra cover for her first boundary. This is my first look at Verma. She looks orthodox, wristy, and blessed with the timing of a metronome.

Verma has to go hard here, she has an unbelievable strike rate. Mandhana has to bat long.

  17. Ind 11-0published at 2 overs

Keep an eye on the weather, because it's gone pretty dark. This pitch might be on the slow side - the cross-bat shots look hard to get away. Mandhana goes downtown, over mid-on, for the first boundary of the tournament, and follows that up with a pitching wedge over mid-off.

Already the drop is proving expensive.

She had that in her hands!

  19. dropped catch

Mandhana dropped on 1published at 1.2 overs

    Ind 2-0

    Should have been taken!

Ellyse Perry sharing the new ball, Smriti Mandhana leaning back to pull a short one. Molly Strano diving at mid-wicket, getting both hands to it, but never really looking like hanging on. It was a comfortable height. Big miss?

Strano's a player who thrives on confidence, but I've never see her fail under pressure. I was surprised she wasn't in the original squad.
