I thought the men's final at Lord's last year would be the most atmospheric experience I would have, cricket-wise. I was wrong. It is chockablock outside the MCG, people everywhere, queues stretching as far as you can see. It's amazing. I suspect the attendance record will be tumbling tonight...

  2. Back where it all began...published at 06:11 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

As ever with T20 World Cups, it's been a pretty short, but intensive tournament - and as we build up to the final, we'll remind you how we got here.

It all began at the Sydney Showground 16 days ago, and little did we know that the opening match would be a preview of the final. India prevailed over Australia on that occasion, with spinner Poonam Yadav playing a key role.

No news yet if Katy Perry's biggest long-term fan from the world of cricket will be following the concert.

But I'm sure she'll gain more cricketing fans today.

And while star Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry is ruled out by injury, we have no less a figure than Katy Perry performing before and after the match.

  7. A world record on the line?published at 06:02 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2020

It's eyes down for the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, where crowds have flocked to Melbourne to see hosts Australia take on India.

It's been a long-term campaign of the International Cricket Council and Cricket Australia to "Fill the MCG" for the final - the stated aim being to beat the world record for the highest attendance for a standalone women's sport event, which is currently 90,185 - held by the final of the women's football World Cup between the USA and China in 1999.

That was at the Rose Bowl (the one in Pasadena, California, not the one in Southampton). The MCG has a capacity of 100,024. More than 75,000 tickets had been sold by yesterday. So if you're in Melbourne, get on down to "the G" and become a record breaker...
