Oh hello! Jason Holder manages to find a sweet spot on the pitch and the ball, out of nowhere, jumps up and strikes Dom Sibley on the elbow. Sibley was shouldering his arms and most definitely didn't expect it to bounce up like it did.
There's claret on Sibley's shirt as that knock draws blood. He looks fine but on comes the team doc, head to toe in PPE.

There are some players that if you bowl 25 dot balls to you feel something might happen, but an opening batsman in the mould of these two doesn't care.
"Keep believing," Dowrich shouts from behind the stumps. He's either rehearsing for Glee or is encouraging Roston Chase and West Indies to find that extra gear.
Sibley works Chase to mid-wicket for a single.

Thomas Measures: An hour of these two, and maybe that call at the toss, will actually look like a good one for Ben Stokes.
Burns 29, Sibley 23
Another Holder maiden. It's been 23 balls since England scored a run but the ball is doing very little out there.
A new slim-line Sibley, who lost 12kg this year, has looked solid in defence. England hoping that these two see it out to lunch.

Maybe it is time for West Indies to have a go with some aggressive-type bowling. The traditional bowling has looked easy to face.
Maybe Alzarri Joseph could come in and just bowl fast.
Chase 5-1-11-0
Sandwiches being left in kit bags is more common than I thought.
There's nothing threatening from Chase as Burns and Sibley easy see off the over. How many more overs will Holder give him?
The England pair couldn't look more settled in the middle.

Tom: Once found some 6-month old egg and cress sandwiches in my kit bag. My well marinated pads maintained a faint whiff for most of the season.
All too easy for England. Showing a great deal of patience and looking solid in defence.
West Indies are looking very flat. A maiden from Holder but nothing to trouble the hosts.

A friend of mine opened their kit bag for the first training session. It was filled with maggots. On closer inspection he found the remains of a mouldy sandwich and banana which he had thown in there last game of the season.

Roston Chase continues. Often after the drinks break we see a batsman lose concentration and gift his wicket away.
But no such thing this time as Burns steers Chase past slip and then drives through the covers. Three from the over.

This is England's highest opening stand in a home Test in 20 games - since Cook and Jennings put on 80 against South Africa at Lord's.
England have to be happy with that first hour...

Burns was mighty fortunate that that was outside off stump rather than in line with the stumps.

Is this the first sign of the ball really keeping low? Rory Burns jams his bat and bends at the knee in an exaggerated fashion after one scooted along the floor.
Thankfully for Burns it missed the stumps because otherwise it would have cleaned him up.
I'm not sure who that favours. If England can get runs on the board they won't mind. That's drinks.

This is England's sixth fifty partnership in their last 12 innings. They had only had six fifty opening stands in the previous 36 innings.
Since the tour of India in 2016-17 England had nine fifty opening stands up until the end of last summer.
They have now had six in seven Tests since Sibley came into team at the start of the New Zealand tour last winter.
Beg, borrow and steal, John. OK, don't steal. We don't condone that.
England easily pick apart Roston Chase and find the gaps to keep the score ticking along.
A bit too full and flighty from Chase.
Four from the over.

No bat. Turns out the kids had borrowed it (with permission from their mum) and it's lying scuffed and battered on the floor of the shed. Still, kids were playing cricket!

A much better over from Jason Holder but Rory Burns still manages to find the boundary, courtesy of an outside edge.
England going along very, very nicely here.
That West Indies lead is just 57.
