  1. 'We were outstanding with the ball'published at 15:36 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

England captain Joe Root at the post-match presentation: "The last two weeks we've been excellent. We set our a game plan and we executed it pretty well. I thought we were outstanding with the ball and there was three hundred partnerships which is progress for the batting line-up.

"There's a lot of experience in the bowling line-up and they are varied to do it on any wicket around the world.

"We couldn't be more happy for Stuart Broad. His half-century in the first innings, wickets and then his 500th wicket. It's a phenomenal achievement and it just sums Stuart up, he just gets on a roll. It's just the sort of player he is, he just wants to get involved in the big moments."

On Broad and James Anderson: "We're looking at two of England's greatest bowlers of all time and we've got to understand how lucky we are as current players to be playing alongside them. There isn't a better place for a young player to come in and learn their trade and hopefully it's going to happen for a long time."

More from Root on TMS: "Stuart has been unbelievable this week - with the bat as well!

"I'm really pleased for him and to get 500 wickets is an incredible achievement. I was training with him in lockdown at Trent Bridge and seeing all the hard work he's been putting in. To see that hard work pay off, I'm really pleased for him.

"It's worked out very well leaving him out of the first Test - we've had a look at a number of different guys and different combinations. To make this impact on the series over two games is a testament to his ability."

West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase: "You get a lot of credit in the cricketing world when you do well against England and that’s incentive enough.

"From the beginning of the tour we spoke about our plans and we really wanted about our batsman to battle hard. It’s not been coming up to par for the last couple of years, we’ve shown some signs of improvement but we’ve still not been good enough to be victorious."

  4. West Indies player of the seriespublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

England head coach Chris Silverwood has nominated Roston Chase as the Windies player of the series. He's taken 10 wickets and scored 157 runs in the series.

Broad also said it's "unrealistic" that the same bowlers will play all three Tests against Pakistan.

That series starts on 5 August.

  6. Man of the Match & Seriespublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

Stuart Broad has been named man of the match and series.

It's hard to argue - he's taken 10-67 in this Test and 16 in the series at an average of 10.93.

England are a better team in these conditions but we owe the West Indies a great deal.

I dread to think where the game would be in this country right now if they hadn't agreed to come over.

They should be rewarded with a series or two from the big three countries in the game.

England captain Joe Root on Test Match Special: "A brilliant performance - ever since that partnership between Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler we've been in control. Our bowling was exceptional throughout both innings.

"We are really growing as a team, we've always been a hard team to beat in these conditions but think things are really coming together in these last two Tests.

"We're very pleased - we knew we had a few things to contend with today, not least the weather."

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

The West Indies team ran out of steam. They were here for a month before the first Test and chomping at the bit to play at Southampton.

They did and that game is the blueprint for how West Indies will win Tests - bowl the opposition out cheaply and get just past that total then do it again.

The management and staff aren't confident enough in the batting unit to bat first.

Well played England. It's difficult to reassert yourself in such a short period of time after going 1-0 down in the series.

Plenty of people all chipping in. Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad wonderful.

  12. 'I want Woakes to have the ball'published at 15:17 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

More from Stuart Broad: "We get to go home for a few days and it'll be great to have a little break but with the momentum we've gathered from these two Tests it will be great to get back playing again.

"I was disappointed when I stopped playing ODI cricket in 2016 but looking back that's kept me fresh. Test cricket is hard work but that's why we love it. It's addictive and it's hugely satisfying when you win a game. It's always feels a very special achievement, you do go through massive highs and lows but winning Test matches is what it's all about."

On whether he'll get the 500 ball: "I got the one from the first innings. I want Whizz (Chris Woakes) to have it, he deserves it. He's bowled beautifully in this series."

Stuart Broad will deservedly get a lot of the column inches and take up a lot of the airwaves today but a special mention for Chris Woakes too.

England needed to be accurate and deliver today with the rain showers disrupting play and Woakes did that taking 5-50.

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

Stuart Broad is now the seventh England player to take 10 wickets and score a half-century in the same Test.

The previous one was Moeen Ali against South Africa at Lord's in 2017.

  16. 'This series has been special'published at 15:11 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

More from Stuart Broad talking to Sky Sports about reaching 500 Test wickets: "It feels amazing. I'm looking forward to playing in front of crowds again. This series has been special, the footage has been different and we've been really engaging. I want to say a huge thank you to the West Indies too, the sacrifice they've made. It wouldn't be possible without them, a huge thank you from all of our players to them. This summer wouldn't be happening without them.

"It's a shame that my friends and family can't be here to give a little wave to but it was great to have my dad here. It was special to get 500, it's great to have one family member here. As soon as it kept low, but how funny, what a stat that is that we got both Brathwaite for our 500. He came to me yesterday when we were batting and said you know who it's going to be 'Kraigg Brathwaite'. When we toured NZ and I got 400, Richard Hadlee wrote in a book 'go get 500' but it felt a long way away.

"It feels great to do it when contributing to a win."

West Indies will be very disappointed by the way they played today.

England are jubilant. It was one-sided in the end.

  18. 'We were relentless'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

England bowler Stuart Broad talking to Sky Sports: "We're delighted with that. The batsmen set it up for us, when you've got scoreboard pressure like that it means so much as a bowling unit. We were relentless, we're all slightly differently and that means we're able to have an instant impact. We all bowled really well as a group.

"We said this morning that we were going to have bowl really well and be disciplined and we didn't know if we'd get all the overs in."

  19. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 28 July 2020

England have been superb this week and in the last two Tests if we're being honest.

They were bang average at Southampton in the first Test but they've come back brilliantly.

At times they've been questioned for batting too slowly, or getting their bowlers wrong, but to pick up a 113-run win followed by a 269-run win, you can't ask for much more.

When it's your game, it's your game.

Unbelievable - a short ball down leg and it's caught. And very well caught by Jos Buttler.
