  1. 50 runs

50 for Maxwellpublished at 40 overs

    Aus 218-5

A single to bring up Glen Maxwell's half century. Australia were in trouble when he came to the crease. Perhaps slightly worryingly for England, he seems to be upping his intensity now. And we all know what damage an on-fire Maxwell to do.

He got out to the pitch of it and he connected with it so well. He is such a good striker of the ball.

  3. 6 runs

    Aus 215-5published at 39.3 overs

Glenn Maxwell has picked that one! It's flighted in by Rashid and it's been absolutely middled over mid-wicket for a massive six.

  4. Aus 208-5published at 39.1 overs

What a stunning, spinning delivery from Adil Rashid. It turns away from the right-handed Marsh and past a diving Joe Root at slip for four byes. I was convinced there was an edge.

One of my favourite off-field moments last summer was Mitchell Marsh's news conference at The Oval, after he'd take an Ashes five-for. He was so honest about the fact that the Aussie public have never really taken to him and his past struggles to lose weight. "I don't necessarily eat that bad, I'm just a big eater and my mum likes to feed me," was his comment. Me too, Mitch.

  6. Aus 204-5published at 39 overs

Just one more single from the Woakes over. Now then, what will Australia be happy with here? Anything about 270/280 and game on?

  7. 200 runs

200 for Australiapublished at 38.3 overs

    203-5

Chris Woakes returns. Beard or no beard, the Warwickshire man is always a well groomed fella.

Short from Woakes, Marsh swivels and pulls through mid-wicket for four, bring up Australia's 200.

This has been a really good partnership. Marsh has been pretty watchful. It's been exactly what Australia needed. It's given them a chance of getting up to something competitive.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Marshpublished at 38 overs

    Aus 197-5

It is indeed Adil Rashid and he bamboozles Glenn Maxwell with a bouncing delivery, Maxwell taking a huge swipe as he misses it altogether, the ball sailing over Buttlers head for four byes.

Mitchell Marsh digs out a full ball from Rashid for a single to bring up his 50. It's been a patient innings, he's taken 75 balls to get there.

I reckon Glenn Maxwell is one of the few Australians to pick Adil Rashid.

  11. Aus 188-5published at 37 overs

    Moeen 10-0-59-0

Moeen Ali may be wicketless but he has done a job here for England as he completes his final over, conceding just three singles.

Right, five wickets in hand, at what point do Australia let off the shackles?

Looks like Rashid is getting loose.

If England want to be a team that dominates an era, and they certainly have the ability to do that in white-ball cricket, I just think their fielding can be 20-30% better.

Mark Wood is bowling quick, very quick. He sends down a length delivery at 92mph and beats the outside edge of Marsh's bat.

Some of the Aussie batsmen have made starts but failed to convert into a big score. Marcus Stoinis, in at number three in this match for the injured Steve Smith, looked in decent nick for his 43.

  14. Aus 182-5published at 35 overs

    Marsh 4, Maxwell 36

Oof, Maxwell gave that some welly, a reverse sweep down to square leg for a scrumptious four. How did he generate such power? Amazing.

Another boundary, this time Maxwell drives through cover. Good over for the tourists, 11 from it.

Bolton's old ground at Burden Park had a railway line directly behind one goal. It featured prominently in an Arthur Askey film.

I'm off for a little break in the Cotswolds next weekend, have noticed there is a cricket club right next to our cottage. I'm hoping there is a village game going on.

Drinks have been taken. Will we see a lapse in concentration from Marsh and/or Mitchell? Moeen will continue.

Going for a walk around the ground is actually very peaceful. It feels like when you go for a Sunday stroll and stumble across a club game. All you can hear is the gentle sound of bat on ball, polite applause and then the cheers from the players as a wicket falls.

  18. drinks break

    Aus 171-5published at 34 overs

A quick single off the final ball of the over allows Mitchell Marsh to retain the strike. Drinks.

  19. Aus 170-5published at 33.4 overs

Mark Wood charges in, hoping to separate this dangerous and blossoming partnership. These two are happy to rotate the strike and pick up the odd boundary - Mitchell Marsh opening the face to run a four down to third man.

It's a different game if these two are together at the 42 over mark.
