I was wondering why the Australian players were wearing woolly bobble hats this morning. It’s because it’s absolutely freezing. I’ve had to dig a blanket out of my mammoth handbag.

  2. Aus 123-5published at 24 overs

Jofra Archer is on. England going for the throat. Pat Cummins is in next. No mug, but it's certainly the beginning of the lower order.

Also, the score is one two three four five.

Glenn Maxwell, at least, knows this game well having played in the T20 Blast for Lancashire.

Glenn Maxwell is the new victim, I mean, batsman.

Adil Rashid has got Australia in a spin here.

Can we clear something up, here? Australia have seen leg-spin before, right? I'm sure they used to have a decent one. Adil Rashid could bowl underarm at the moment and take wickets. This is a surrender from Alex Carey, a top-edged sweep into the hands of Sam Billings. Awful from the Aussies. Brilliant from Rashid.

A previous girlfriend dumped me just before my birthday but after buying me a square foot of Lord's turf. I never received it, she just told me she'd bought it for me. I wonder where it is now.

Eoin Morgan is walking around with two caps on, like a member of Goldie Lookin Chain. Big smile on his face. He knows his team are on top.

This is a critical phase of the game - a little subplot is that the next World Cup in this format is in India, where spin will obviously play a key part.

  11. Aus 118-4published at 22 overs

Has that happened in real life? Must have done. Not the stopping the game bit, but the ball ending up on a train. I think there's a football ground somewhere that has a train running along the touchline, inside the stadium. There must a be a club cricket ground with a train line near to the boundary edge. Another lovely over from Rashid. Australia are playing him like they are searching for their car keys in a dark room.

Matthew Anson: For anyone on the text commentary wondering how cricket relates to Thomas the Tank Engine... There's an episode called "Train Stops Play" when a batsman hits the ball for six and onto a train. Chaos ensues as the train drives away with the club's one and only ball.

Marsh looks much happier against Moeen, as demonstrated by a lovely cover drive for four. That Rashid wicket was the first of the day to fall to spin. Earlier on, Jofra Archer got one and Mark Wood these two...

Australia must have so much film and analysis of Adil Rashid, but still they can't pick him - not many can.

Now Mitchell Marsh is having trouble with the Rashid googly.

To make it fair, Adil might have to stand at the end of his run and shout "this one is going to turn the other way!"

    Good afternoon, Alex Carey!

First ball reverse-swept for four. Game on.

Done like a kipper. If he picked the googly, he didn't play it well. Marnus Labuschange was well across, trying to work to the leg side. When he got given, the review was almost indignant. 'How can you give that?' Well, Marnus, it was hitting off stump three-quarters of the way up. On yer bike.

That's absolutely perfect bowling. It's the wrong'en. I suppose they might as well review it but it's a classic, wrist-spinners, lbw googly.
