That was a terrific pull shot, it wasn't that short but he was quickly on it. There's been a lot of speculation about his position in this side but wouldn't it be great if he can get England home?

Biffed! Much better from Jos Buttler. This one was in his hitting area and he pumps it across the line through mid-wicket. There's a dive on the boundary but the fielder cannot cut it off.

Matthew Wright: Buttler has had a poor Test with the gloves but regardless of the result I would prefer to have Jos batting in this situation rather than Foakes (or Bairstow).

Buttler wafts a wide ball. Buttler has to attack but that probably wasn't there to hit.

Naseem is all-action, charging in to the crease.

A lot of conversations going on. The Pakistanis perhaps just starting to get a little bit anxious.

You don't often see a bouncer from Mohammad Abbas. He thumped that in.

Woakes has one of the tube bandages around his left arm. I think it's protecting a nasty graze he got when sliding to make his ground in the first innings.

It only adds to Woakes' grizzly new look, along with his beard and bulked-up upper body.

Abbas bowls a rare bouncer and the Brummie Botham ducks underneath it.

As good as Shadab is, it's the seamers that the batsmen are having to work hard against.

England are ticking along without having to do anything too extravagant. Shadab is just giving England easy singles.

It looks like Azhar Ali is going to change the plan early. Naseem Shah is warming up.

Not much Woakes could do about that. A perfectly pitched leg-spinner.

  13. Eng 182-5published at 56.3 overs

As if to live up to the classic leg-spinner cliche. Shadab Khan rips one past Woakes before serving up a lovely full toss. Woakes biffs it but doesn't connect fully.

Simon M: Given the game Jos Buttler has had so far, I reckon we'll get to within five runs of victory with 9 wickets down and then Jos will hole out to deep mid-wicket, going for a glory shot.

  15. Eng 179-5published at 56 overs

    Target 277

    99 runs to win.

It looks a whole lot better now it's down into single figures.

And another single to end the over. Pakistan have an in-out field. They're trying to attack and protect boundaries at the same time.

It's amazing what it does to Jos Buttler when you put a run chase in front of him. He's world class.

A profitable over. When does the pressure start to tell on Pakistan?

  18. Eng 176-5published at 55 overs

Shot! Jos Buttler drives for four. Eight runs from Shadab's over. 101 to win.

  19. Eng 172-5published at 16:26 British Summer Time 8 August 2020

A lovely part of the world and a great photo. How is everyone else following? Nervous?

Shadab is more experienced in white-ball cricket so may enjoy this situation. That said, Woakes and Buttler milk him for four easy singles to start the over.
