I've watched such a lot of Jimmy Anderson over the years, from when I first got into cricket to now, when I somehow have a job writing about this stuff.

The determination and perseverance he's shown is what makes him a true great. He has always worked to improve, to be better at his craft, and I think that's beyond admirable.

The hair is considerably better now than it was then.

    Honestly, what a career.

    A giant of the game.

That's the end of a memorable over. A wonderful moment.

I really, really hope you all gave him a round of applause in your living room.

The Sky commentators have come out to the balcony to give him an ovation as he collects his cap.

It's funny how milestones can weigh you down a little bit.

  7. Pak 112-3published at 61.4 overs

What a great way to get your 600th Test wicket; a bit of extra bounce, the stoic Pakistan captain chasing the ball, and your skipper taking the catch at first slip.

Well done Jimmy Anderson. He has a massive smile. What a great way to get it, caught first slip from a delivery that bounced on the off stump line and lifted, on a flat pitch and an old ball. It just shows the mark of a man. Well done Jimmy, well done.

Lovely moment as Jimmy Anderson gets a standing ovation from everyone in the ground, who make plenty of noise to celebrate.

He raises the ball to the dressing rooms before he's engulfed by his team-mates.

I am so thrilled for him. What an achievement.

He's done it. He could easily have done it earlier. But Joe Root was not going to drop that. He can relax. Everyone can relax.

HE'S ONLY GONE AND DONE IT!

James Anderson. The first fast bowler, the first England bowler, to 600 Test match wickets. Take a bow.

And he's dismissed the Pakistan captain to get there, a thick edge flying to Joe Root at first slip.

    So, SO good.

Come on Jimmy. Come on. You rock star. You've got this. And I've really got to get on with some work.

    Azhar 31, Babar 11

    Jimmy's coming back on.

This ball, incidentally, is doing less than nothing. Babar Azam proves my point by driving Archer gloriously back down the ground for a smattering of runs.

Anderson appears to be leaving the field, off he goes. That's a bit of mystery.

Hmm. Jimmy's nipped off the pitch.

Anderson isn't tearing in, he's not looking like a man who is hunting down this wicket.

  17. Pak 105-2published at 60 overs

Shot! Babar Azam leans back and caresses James Anderson through the covers for three runs. Lovely stuff, that.

Jimmy doesn't look particularly thrilled with his lot but that might just be his normal face. I don't know any more.

Archer doesn't look he's enjoying this very much. He's bowling in strong wind and ordered to bowl bouncers. A) They're not coming off quickly and b) Azhar Ali isn't interested in playing.

    Trail by 208 runs

Jofra Archer starts his latest over with a slower ball that Azhar Ali deals with nicely, before both men get distracted by the frankly appalling wind that is buffeting across the ground.

Azhar tries to pull the final ball of the over, miscues it, and ends up inside-edging the ball onto a... rather delicate area of his body. Babar comes down to offer no sympathy whatsoever. Ouch.
