England definitely made some mistakes. Eoin Morgan got out at a time when set, he was playing beautifully. Another 10 overs of him and the game would have been well out of the grasp of Ireland. They were probably 30-40 runs short.

They didn't do much wrong with the ball. It seemed to get better under the lights. David Willey didn't find the right length and Ireland just put them under pressure.

Overall Ireland got the tactics spot on in the run chase. What I did like was the singles after the boundaries - that was missing in the first two games.

England win the series 2-1 but Ireland crucially take 10 points from winning this match towards World Cup qualification.

The partnership between Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie was the finest Irish one I've seen. They both needed a score today too.

Batsmen now have no fear and sometimes it can settle the mind knowing that you can't fiddle around and have to go for it from ball one. A lot of credit has to go Paul Stirling and then Andrew Balbirnie - I thought they were outstanding in their calmness and composure. That partnership was simply amazing.

I'm reticent to call this much-changed England side world champions but it's still a side packed with some of the best ODI players in the world.

To chase down 329 in that fashion is very, very impressive.

Nick Hare: England seem to have been off their game all series. Underestimated Ireland all series. Got away with it in first 2 games with 1 or 2 individuals standing up. Tonight was an abysmal performance, especially in the field.

That was absolutely masterful by Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie.

After Ireland's wobbles with the bat in the first two matches, they will have known they had to bat very deep to give their side a chance and they did with two sublime centuries.

England looked to have very few plans of how to bowl at them, but that's also because they played each new bowler so well.

  9. 'Ireland were special with the bat'published at 21:55 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Michael Carberry
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

Ireland looked dead and buried after the two defeats but the fight they've shown. They dug in with the ball at the back end - there was times when it looked like England were going to post something huge but Ireland just kept chipping away. They were special with the bat.

Ireland needed 328 and got 329 to beat England in that famous game in Bangalore at the 2011 World Cup.

They needed 329 here and got it to record just their second ever ODI victory over England.

Ireland's lucky number? Cricket, what a sport.

Kevin O'Brien shows all his nous to get Ireland over the line after centurions Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie fell.

But that's also a stellar effort by the 20-year-old Harry Tector under immense pressure.
