  1. 100 runs

100 up for Essexpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Essex (298 & 104-4) need 98 more runs to beat Kent (387 & 112)

Landmark passed for Essex as a couple of boundaries from first-class debutant Feroze Khushi (21 not out) off Marcus O'Riordan take them beyond 100.

Also less than 100 needed to win now for the hosts at Chelmsford.

    Hosein b Ball 3 (Derbyshire 239 & 192-5 v Nottinghamshire 324 & 279)

Harvey Hosein's stumps are taken out of the ground by Jake Ball!

Nottinghamshire are halfway to victory over Derbyshire, who are 192-5 and needing 173 for an unlikely triumph.

Matt Critchley is not out on 20 and needs something special for the visitors.

  3. Moisture not affecting batting conditions at Durhampublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Yorkshire (199 & 116-3) need 55 more runs to beat Durham (103 & 266)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Emirates, Chester-le-Street

Play eventually got underway at 13:45 BST after the morning was wiped out by rain.

Yorkshire resumed needing 68 more to win. Dawid Malan and Harry Brook quickly moved their fourth-wicket partnership to 50. It came in 109 balls, to add to the 52 they put on in the first innings.

But things could have been so different if Malan hadn't been dropped in the slips last night on 32.

With so much moisture around we were wondering if we would see some seam movement and thought batting conditions would end up being difficult but there's nothing of note so far.

As things stand the one thing which may be against Yorkshire is the possibility of rain returning. It is a wild day in the North East and blowing a hoolie.

  4. Smith shows some fight for Surreypublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Surrey (282 7 45-3) need 269 more runs to beat Middlesex (347-6 dec & 248-6 dec)

No further wickets have fallen since they resumed after lunch at The Oval.

Surrey batsman Jamie Smith appears to want to go on the counter-attack instead of sitting back.

He hits a handsome straight six off Thilan Walallawita to move to 15 off 23 balls.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Hankins lbw Tongue 69 (Gloucestershire 267 & 214-6 v Worcestershire 428-5)

He lasted almost five hours at the crease but Gloucestershire's George Hankins is sent packing for 69.

Josh Tongue gets him lbw and Worcestershire have their opponents 214-6 as they get into their tail.

The lead is just 53 runs so Gloucestershire need another impressive batting display from somewhere.

  6. Testing conditions at Durhampublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Yorkshire (199 & 115-3) need 56 more runs to beat Durham (103 & 266)

Yorkshire are by no means home and dry quite yet but the most likely thing to stop them winning could be if rain returns.

Dawid Malan (55*) and Harry Brook (29*) have settled well but it's cold, breezy and grey at Chester-le-Street - we don't know how big a window they'll have before the weather turns again.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Madsen lbw Ball 43 (Derbyshire 239 & 180-4 v Nottinghamshire 324 & 279)

A huge scalp for Jake Ball - the ball keeps low and that's the end of Wayne Madsen.

The experienced Derbyshire number three goes for a stubborn 43 off 172 balls - the visitors now 180-4 and 185 runs short of victory.

Matt Critchley and Harvey Hosein now at the crease and Notts are firm favourites to end their two-year wait for a first-class win.

  8. 50 runs

50 partnership for Yorkshirepublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Yorkshire (199 & 107-3) need 64 more runs to beat Durham (103 & 266)

Durham's Ben Raine appeals for lbw against Dawid Malan but he doesn't seem too convinced and the umpire is unmoved.

Malan and Harry Brook have brought up the 50 partnership for Yorkshire - their chase started nervously yesterday but these two have put them back in the driving seat.

  9. Play resumes at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Yorkshire (199 & 103-3) need 68 more runs to beat Durham (103 & 266)

And five minutes later we have our first play of the day at Chester-le-Street after rain this morning.

Dawid Malan (50*) and Harry Brook (22*) will look to take Yorkshire to victory at Durham - they're 103-3 and need 68 more runs to do it.

  12. rain stops play

Yorkshire to resume run chase at 13:45 BSTpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Yorkshire (199 & 103-3) need 68 more runs to beat Durham (103 & 266)

Rain meant no play was possible this morning at Chester-le-Street.

But good news from the north east is that play is due to start in the next 20 minutes.

Yorkshire 68 runs shy of an opening-round victory.

New addition Dawid Malan will resume unbeaten on 50 looking to get them over the line.

  13. Rossington proves to be Northants' "Marathon Man"published at 13:19 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

Northamptonshire's captain Adam Rossington could walk proudly from the field at lunchtime.

Proud not only of his own innings, currently worth 104 runs chiselled out in almost five-and-a-half hours of disciplined batting, but also of his team's resolute effort.

Just under 24 hours ago, it had seemed highly likely that they would have been sunk in this game long before now, but partnerships of 159 with Charlie Thurston yesterday and now 108 so far with Luke Proctor have allowed Rossington to lead his team to a sight of dry land.

By contrast, Warwickshire's morning in the field was almost featureless.

Their efforts were unstinting, but the newish ball created only one real moment of drama this morning, when Oliver Hannon-Dalby found Proctor's outside edge but the ball flew wide of the three slips.

The other seamers tried in vain to discomfort the batsmen and Alex Thomson's off-breaks didn't appear to receive much help from the fourth-day pitch.

Olly Stone's absence from the second innings was ever-more keenly felt, but they must remind themselves that one good spell soon after lunch could yet set up a feasible target.

  14. Kent right in the huntpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

    Essex (298 & 73-4) need 129 more runs to beat Kent (387 & 112)

At 48-1, with Nick Browne and Sir Alastair Cook seemingly set to grind out the runs towards the victory target, Kent seemed to be ebbing out of the game.

The introduction of Hamid Qadri brought immediate dividends though and Browne caught at slip from the spinner’s third ball.

Skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond got it right again when he brought Grant Stewart back for his second spell, dismissing Tom Westley for a duck with his first delivery, and removing Varun Chopra the following over.

Essex should still be favourites to chase down a modest total, but Kent have bowled themselves back into contention.

Another wicket for Middlesex at The Oval right on the stroke of lunch!

Tim Murtagh in the wickets once again and it's Will Jacks who departs this time for a duck as he sees his stumps rearranged.

Middlesex looking well-placed now to pick up an opening round win and they will need seven more wickets in the two remaining sessions.
