  12. Gloucestershire pay tribute to Brownpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Gloucestershire 84-1 v Worcestershire

Gloucestershire players are wearing black armbands - with the county's flag at Bristol at half-mast - to pay tribute to their former captain, chairman and president Tony Brown, who died in May at the age of 83.

On the field Chris Dent (31 not out) and Graeme van Buuren (34 not out) have Gloucestershire 84-1 against at lunch Worcestershire, who got Miles Hammond caught behind by Ben Cox off the bowling of Josh Tongue for 14 earlier on.

  13. Hampshire make quick breakthroughs to grab upper handpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Sussex 73-5 v Hampshire

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent at Hove

Collectively Hampshire bowled better as the session wore on.

Lovely moment when 20-year-old seam bowler Ajeet Dale (2-15), playing his first first-class match was on a hat-trick.

He’d had Tom Clark caught at mid-on, then produced a beauty of a delivery to induce an edge behind from skipper Ben Brown.

Delray Rawlings coming in on the hat-trick ball played back a full straight delivery.

For the home side, opener Phil Salt (44 not out) looks in good touch.

He cracked a quickfire hundred for the England Lions only last week in a warm-up game against Ireland.

  14. Kent rally after early wobblespublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Essex v Kent 125-3

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex at Chelmsford

A very good recovery from Kent after they had been rocked with the loss of three early wickets and been reduced to 23-3.

Since then Heino Kuhn (44 not out) and Ollie Robinson (52 not out) have impressively repaired the damage with some watchful defence and good ball striking, Robinson notably striking Simon Harmer for a six.

Batting conditions look good and after those early losses, the lunch score probably looks more like what Kent will have hoped for after winning the toss.

  15. 111 days and then it rainspublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 1 August 2020

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Emirates, Chester-le-Street

You couldn't make it up. After a wait of 111 days for cricket the rain came along 32 minutes into the match. We will resume at 13:10 BST with Durham 12-0.

Debutant Sean Dickson survived a big shout for caught behind just before the rain came. We heard something through the headphones but umpire Neil Pratt said he wasn't out.

He will resume on five and former Yorkshire player Alex Lees has seven.

The sun is shining now though and no more rain is forecast. But quite a lot fell in just a short period as the players were forced to leave the field.

After the early loss of Sam Robson, Middlesex have shown some grit and ridden the luck to steer themselves through without any further losses so far.

Nick Gubbins (39 not out) and Max Holden (21 not out) are still there.

Holden has been dropped a couple of times as Surrey have failed to take all the chances their disciplined bowling has produced.
