    Durham 63-5 v Yorkshire

Jack Burnham is the latest to fall for Durham, his off-stump taken out by Yorkshire's Ben Coad.

It's been a very attritional first day of cricket so far at The Oval as Middlesex continue to battle hard against some disciplined Surrey bowling.

Phil Salt (68) has been the only Sussex batsman to show any sort of resistance against a tidy Hampshire seam bowling attack.

Harry Finch, who needs a good two months after a poor year last summer, looked a little out of sorts.

Captain Ben Brown got a good delivery from debutant Ajeet Dale. Tom Clark and Tom Haines are both young players looking to gain experience.

The only blemish on Hampshire’s day so far has been the three dropped catches in the slip and gully region. All perfectly catchable!

Kiran Carlson has been handed the formidable challenge of filling in for Australia star Marnus Labuschagne at number three.

The 22-year-old batsman's previous seasons have been disrupted by university exams, but with those out of the way, and a promising pre-season, he should have a decent opportunity to fill a slot that has posed problems for Glamorgan over several years - apart from Labuschagne’s 10-match pyrotechnics in 2019.

With David Lloyd injured, Glamorgan will also need consistency from the experienced middle-order of Billy Root and Chris Cooke if they’re to have success in a tough group of four Division One sides.

The Black Country and Malvern College are unlikely partners, but they have over the years produced many fine cricketers for Worcestershire, and Jack Haynes has dual qualification as a Stourbridge lad who gained a cricket scholarship at the college.

He broke into the Worcestershire team last season having played age group cricket for England up to under-19 and impressed a lot of people, without going on to get a major score.

Son of former Worcestershire all-rounder Gavin, he will get opportunities again this summer as Worcestershire continue their policy of blooding local youngsters.
