  11. ouch!

Painful moment for James Harris!published at 13:28 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

    Essex v Middlesex 86-7

    Ouch indeed!

This is a nasty incident for Middlesex all-rounder James Harris as he takes a sharp blow on his right arm from a ball that struck him after his batting partner Blake Cullen had driven the ball sweetly back at him at the non-striker's end.

Harris wasn't quite able to get out of the way quick enough and went to ground.

But after a short break and some magic spray, he's thankfully back on his feet.

  16. Somerset show some gritpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

    Worcestershire v Somerset 88-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset at New Road

Gutsy batting from the two Toms, Lammonby and Abell, made that a good morning for Somerset, in a game that both sides probably need to win if they’re to reach the Bob Willis Trophy final at Lord’s.

It must have been a marginal decision for Abell to opt to bat, after winning the toss, on a pitch expected to give plenty of help to the seamers, under cloudy skies.

So far, it has worked out well, but batting has been hard work, and will surely stay that way through the afternoon.

  17. Essex looking to maintain strong startpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

    Essex v Middlesex 72-6

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex at Chelmsford

It was a brave decision by Middlesex to bat first after such a short turn around from their T20 match last night, but it hasn’t worked out.

Jamie Porter and Sam Cook have combined to dismantle the visitors top order, Porter in particular looking back to his 2017 best with some devastating late movement.

You have to feel some sympathy for Middlesex who had so little time to recover.

With Simon Harmer making an early breakthrough and having another pitch that suits him Essex will be confident of bowling Middlesex out cheaply. The key to the match, and their potential participation in the final, will be how they respond with the bat.

They need to win and better whatever points total Derbyshire achieve against Lancashire. That will almost certainly be enough to take Essex through.

Middlesex’s hopes though may already be dashed.

  18. Time for the afternoon sessionpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 6 September 2020

And now we do have lunch in Lancashire's game with Derbyshire.

The hosts end the session on 71-3, with Bohannon (39*) and Vilas (5*) making it unscathed to the interval.
