  1. Vipers 35-0published at 10th over

    Adams 22, McCaughan 7

Phoebe Graham checks the Vipers' progress with an accurate over. Georgia Adams inside-edges the final delivery for a single.

Not too far away from the leg stump that.

The end of the powerplay. I'd say it's in the balance.

  2. Vipers 33-0published at 9th over

    Adams 21, McCaughan 6

Beth Langston continues and tries a shorter one to Georgia Adams.

Not enough pace and Adams pulls it away for four.

    She looks set here.

  3. Vipers 23-0published at 8th over

    Adams 16, McCaughan 5

Phoebe Graham comes into the attack and Georgia Adams immediately dispatches her for four.

How's the response? A perfect away-swinger which Adams edges through a vacant gully.

One of the questions to be answered in today's final at Edgbaston is 'which team will miss their England stars most'?

On the face of, it, Southern Vipers have the advantage as the ongoing international T20 series against West Indies has only deprived them of opening bat Danni Wyatt.

Northern Diamonds have been boosted by the return of skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill, but must still manage without all-rounder Nat Sciver and pace bowler Katherine Brunt.

They have further international experience in their ranks in Jenny Gunn, Sterre Kalis, Linsey Smith and Beth Langston, so they will fancy their chances despite the absence of Sciver and Brunt.

  5. Vipers 17-0published at 7th over

    Adams 10, McCaughan 5

Another super over from Beth Langston, just a couple from it.

The run rate sits at 2.5, a fantastic start from the Northern Diamonds in the field.

  6. Vipers 15-0published at 6th over

    Adams 10, McCaughan 5

Georgia Adams drives at a wide one from Linsey Smith and a thick edge runs away for four. Not a convincing stroke, but Adams won't complain about the result.

A single follows bringing Ella McCaughan back onto strike and BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra's Dan Norcross ruminates on whether her name is pronounced McCackan or McCoffin - it's the former, he reckons.

  7. Vipers 11-0published at 5th over

    Adams 6, McCaughan 5

Beth Langston continues and Ella McCaughan has her first boundary as she flashes it away through point.

The final ball of the over is a cracker and McCaughan is beaten.

Southern Vipers 7-0 after 4 overs

Charlotte Edwards and Dani Hazell were England team-mates on many occasions but are pitting their tactical wits against each other at Edgbaston today as head coaches of the two finalists.

Arguably England's finest captain and batter, Edwards retired from playing after Southern Vipers were beaten by Western Storm in last summer's Kia Super League final.

Hazell was in charge of Yorkshire Diamonds in that competition after ending her playing career earlier in the year.

She was due to coach the Northern Superchargers women's team in The Hundred this summer - but when its inaugural season was deferred until 2021, she switched to the Diamonds for the Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Can confirm it is absolute freezing at Edgbaston.

  10. Vipers 7-0published at 4th over

    Adams 6, McCaughan 1

Ella McCaughan is beaten by the first delivery of a new Linsey Smith over.

She misses an attempted square cut later in the over, but picks up her first run with a push into a gap.

  11. Vipers 6-0published at 3rd over

    Adams 6, McCaughan 0

There's an appeal for a catch by the keeper as Beth Langston starts a new over with a fine delivery to Georgia Adams - but the umpire says there was no edge. Langston is varying her pace well and that is the game's first maiden over.

Southern Vipers' scores when batting first in this tournament have been 261-7, 209-8, 232 and 288-1. What sort of total are they targeting today?

  12. Vipers 6-0published at 2nd over

    Adams 6, McCaughan 0

Linsey Smith has the new ball for the Diamonds at the other end, bowling left-arm round the wicket, but she is too short with her second delivery and Georgia Adams square cuts for the first boundary of the game. A single to Adams is the only other run from the over.

  13. Vipers 1-0published at 1st over

    Adams 1, McCaughan 0

Vipers skipper Georgia Adams collects the first run of the final with a thick edge down to third man.

There must be a few nerves for her 18-year-old partner Ella McCaughan and she understandably takes a look at Beth Langston before attempting a cover drive from the final ball of the over, but she doesn't penetrate the field.

It's going to be a high scoring game. We have seen the Vipers score a lot of runs in this tournament. I'm excited to see the girls show what they can do."

Northern Diamonds v Southern Vipers (start 10:30)

    Georgia AdamsImage source, Rex Features

Southern Vipers skipper Georgia Adams has yet to emulate her father Chris by playing international cricket for England.

But her prolific form in the run-up to the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final suggests that day might not be too far away.

Her total of 420 runs at an average of 84 is the highest in the competition, and her 154 not out against Western Storm was a triumph of skill and stamina which must have made her dad very proud.

She has also been part of four century partnerships and wants to be part of another trophy-winning side after helping the Vipers win the Super League T20 title in 2016.

  19. Route to the finalpublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Northern Diamonds v Southern Vipers (start 10:30)

It was pretty much plain sailing for Southern Vipers as they breezed through South Group with a 100 per cent record.

Whether setting a target or chasing, they were clearly the strongest side - beating chief rivals Western Storm by 22 runs at Bristol and 32 runs in the return game at the Ageas Bowl.

Northern Diamonds won their first four games - although a nine-run win over Lightning at the Riverside was tighter than they would have liked.

But they slipped up against Central Sparks at Headingley, losing by six wickets, before confirming their place in the final with a six-wicket win over Thunder as Sterre Kalis hit her second successive half-century.

  20. Teams and tosspublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Northern Diamonds v Southern Vipers (start 10:30)

Northern Diamonds skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill has won the toss at Edgbaston and elected to bowl first.

She was released from the England 'bubble' for the game and will not return for the final two T20 games against West Indies.

Winfield-Hill replaces Rachel Hopkins in the only change from their final group game, while Southern Vipers name the same XI that played in the win against South East Stars in their last match.

Northern Diamonds: Lauren Winfield-Hill (c), Hollie Armitage, Sterre Kalis, Ami Campbell, Alex MacDonald, Jenny Gunn, Bess Heath (w), Linsey Smith, Beth Langston, Phoebe Graham, Katie Levick.

Southern Vipers: Georgia Adams (c), Ella McCaughan, Maia Bouchier, Charlie Dean, Paige Scholfield, Emily Windsor, Catrla Rudd (w), Tara Norris, Alice Monaghan, Charlotte Taylor, Lauren Bell.
