I am a professional musician in an orchestra. There is no shame in being second fiddle. What you really want to avoid is playing the viola or "diesel violin" as we call them. They are the butt of all musicians' jokes.

From 34 balls. You almost forget how good Jos Buttler is. He's been relatively quiet tonight, yet he's still bumping along.

Kyle Utterson: The way Malan and Buttler are playing England look well placed to get this score. Even if South Africa would have got 200 or 210 this England side is so good they would have backed themselves to get that mammoth score to. They're a joy to watch.

  10. Eng 106-1published at 11 overs

21 off the over, completed with a Buttler smear through the covers. England have made their move.

I played 2nd violin in my orchestra. Not sure anyone ever heard what we played and I never made it to 1st violin.

  13. Eng 100-1published at 10.3 overs

Wide. Possibly unluckily. Slower ball bouncer complete deceives Buttler, but it's too high.

It's a sign of how well Malan is playing that someone with the power and skill of Jos Buttler is happy to play second fiddle.

Did anyone actually play second fiddle, like at school or something?

It's a big total but they're ahead of the rate at the moment. Malan has had a little bit of good fortune - he should have been run out then.
