Would be a fantastic chase if England win this, especially as the skipper/balcony were busy playing Battleships while fielding.

Warned, Malan doesn't think about a second to Bavuma this time. How big a miss will that prove to be?

Dawid Malan was miles out, his dive not even getting him in the frame. Temba Bavuma was lightning off the fence, but Quinton de Kock was nowhere near gathering the throw - it hit him on the wrists. Bails off, but no ball. Malan survives.

    This is surely run out?

But has De Kock dropped the ball?

England are not only finding the boundary with regularity, they are also pinching singles, much to the annoyance to the South Africans. The Proteas need a wicket.

Chris Smith: Roy has been a great player in the past but he’s been poor since the World Cup. I would swap him out for Root - great player of spin & his spin bowing will be valuable at a World Cup in India. England really need another spin option in the side.

It's better to pick them than check them.

Indeed it is Shamsi, but Malan, who is batting on another planet at the moment, uses double-jointed wrists to reverse-sweep for four.

That's good from Linde, only five singles from it. His spin partner Tabraiz Shamsi should have a big say too. You suspect that is where this game will be won and lost.

There's been some poor bowling from South Africa in this powerplay. They really need to press home the advantage that their batrsmen have given them.

  11. Eng 58-1published at 6.3 overs

South Africa look for some control in the shape of George Linde. Malan shouts a naughty word when he can't get a short one away,

Malan's 14 off his first three balls is the most by an England batsman off his first three balls in a T20.

    Your wish, my command.

Malan scythed the next ball after the review for four. He's up to 22 from 10 - and the start of an innings is usually his most ponderous part.

Re the Get Involved chat, takes me back a long time to when me and my mates had nothing better to do on dull days in the office than try to get published on live chat. Any chance of making them jealous again all these years later and publishing this useless message?! Oh, the text commentary is great too by the way...

David has sent us a text mentioning Dominic Cummings.

It reminded me of his performance during Lockdown 1.0.

Did anyone else think his set-up made him look like a scorer in a club game?

Poor Lutho Sipamla. The fast-medium bowler is called for a no-ball from his first delivery, with Dawid Malan then swivelling the free hit for a maximum. Malan has got England motoring.
