England would go the opposite way to Pakistan. If they lost a game, they would go even harder in the next game.

How embarrassing, we make 300 plus runs and we still lose to England’s C team. Wasim Khan, Misbah Ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have a lot of explaining to do!

This is the damage Phil Salt - who scored 37 from 22 balls - did at the top of the order...

  5. 'So much credit to Eoin'published at 21:20 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

More from Ben Stokes: "The normal personnel, and Morgs, aren't here but a great deal of credit has to go to Chris Silverwood, Morgs and even Trevor Bayliss for allowing these guys to come in and play in that manner.

"They've gone out and expressed themselves, and that's exactly what I asked them to do at the start of the series. Nobody has taken a backwards step. So much credit has to go to Eoin, for the way he's led the team in the last four or five years.

"This is the culture we've tried to create, we want guys to play fearless cricket.

"Phil Salt has given us that dynamic. Nobody has been affected by the situation or occasion, they've just enjoyed themselves.

"This is the best place to be in. We've had that selection debacle for the last few years."

County cricket has to get a lot of credit. Being able to pull a team together in a week just shows the depth on offer, and what county cricket is like now. It is brilliant.

  7. 'It's been a tough week but we pulled through'published at 21:16 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

England captain Ben Stokes: "The boys' efforts, not just today but throughout the series, the guys who have turned out, has been fantastic. I just want to give a massive thanks to the players, coaches and support staff for still making this happen.

"It has been a tough week, but we've managed to pull through, and to put in performances like that has been fantastic."

England batted really well, and put pressure on the bowlers. They outplayed Pakistan.

There weren't any plans by the Pakistan bowlers - they bowled short and wide. They were very poor in the field as well.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "We started well but we were sloppy in the field.

"We had our opportunities but couldn't capitalise due to our fielding. We will learn from our mistakes and hopefully not repeat them."

All of the lads have taken their opportunities, and you've got to with the first team. To get in that team you've got to do special things, but everybody in this group has done everything they possibly can.

I'm sure they'll remember this series for a long time.

Player of the series Saqib Mahmood: "It has been a pretty special week. I've been given the responsibility to take the new ball, and for me to repay that faith, I'm really happy.

"We obviously speak, but you've got to see what conditions are like, and it just about trying to put the ball in the right area.

"It's set from Eoin Morgan and chris Silverwood, and we've had an aggressive mindset as a group, and we've been pretty ruthless.

"I'll just take it as it comes. This time last week I was waiting to play for Lancashire, so I'll just see what comes."

Player of the match James Vince:"When Lewis came in we tried to build a partnership, we tried to score important boundaries at the right time so the rate never got out of hand.

"It was fairly straightforward, we managed to pick off boundaries regularly, take out time and knock it around.

"It's pleasing to make a contribution, this time last week I didn't expect to get this opportunity. I'm delighted."

There is no doubt that England exposed Pakistan in the first two games. There is a lot of world-class talent in that team, and a lot of credit has to go to this England team, and in particular the bowling unit.

Brydon Carse probably didn't bowl as well today in patches as he'd done in other games.

Sometimes you are going to get it wrong bowling at the death, but until you're brave enough to go out there and do it, you are going to have days like that.

It is the attitude to it, to take the responsibility to do it. You're never going to get the five-wicket hauls without.

In a match which suited the batsmen, credit to Brydon Carse who took 5-61.

Spare a thought for Babar Azam. It's not often you score 158 and end up on the losing team.
