Moeen Ali picks up a fourth boundary with a deft flick fine. He's picked up 16 of his 20 runs in boundaries so far. England will be hoping for more than a cameo, but a Moeen cameo would pretty much get them at parity here.

That's tea too. England added 98 runs for the loss of two wickets in that session. They are 50 runs behind with five wickets remaining.

Mike Atherton is walking around the boundary, pretty much to a standing ovation.

At the moment the pitch looks very good for batting. India will fancy their chances batting again on this and then hope it deteriorates in England's second innings.

Mohammed Shami will bowl the final over before tea.

    I love watching Moeen bat.

    Moeen is finding his feet.

Mohammed Siraj goes slightly short and the England left-hander just punches to the boundary, before crunching another four to end the over as Siraj drops short and wide.

Wowee! An absolute beauty from Mohammed Siraj.

He has gone round the wicket to Moeen Ali, and the slope makes Moeen want to play, but the ball moves away from the outside edge and beats him.

Moeen just needs to get to tea in about five minutes.

    That is a fantastic story.

The rest of England's players should put their bats in Joe Root's bag and see if some of the magic on his bat rubs off on theirs. We used to do it with Darren Lehmann at Yorkshire. He averaged practically 80-odd every year and be walking around with a bag full of our bats.

Shot! That will settle a few of Moeen Ali's nerves. He picks up his first boundary with a back foot punch through the covers.

Yesterday Michael Vaughan said England would be in this game as long as they got 300. They have done that.

Vaishach: Jos Buttler should fancy taking a page out of Pant’s book and play his natural attacking game. His defensive game isn’t paying much dividends to himself or England.

The wickets to fall so far today. Only two = good news for England.

Virat Kohli has changed his bowlers around all day. But I'm amazed he hasn't opened up anything straight down the ground to Joe Root as he has not scored a run down there.

  14. Eng 291-5published at 95 overs

Moeen Ali is having to battle here. He is again beaten on his outside edge as he looks to drive away.

Joe Root walks down the pitch and has a word with him.

Moeen is on one off 20 balls.

This game is right on a knife-edge. It's been a good day for England so far - they are chipping away at the total - but that could change with a couple of wickets for India.

Mohammed Siraj - who has taken three of the England wickets so far - is back on.

There are a lot of India fans in the lower Edrich Stand. They are living every delivery that goes past Moeen's outside edge.

  18. Eng 290-5published at 94 overs

Good from Mohammed Shami. He twice beats Moeen Ali's outside edge, as the England left hander is stuck between defence and attack.

This is Moeen's first red-ball in England since September 2019, don't forget. He hasn't played any red-ball cricket since the second Test in Chennai in February.

In the new versions of the Compton and Edrich Stands, there's a restaurant where the food is made by celebrity chef Tommy Banks. That has to be the best restaurant in any sports ground in the world.

Moeen Ali is off and running. He just drops a defensive push into the covers and runs.

    Good cricket.
