England's slip catchers literally can't get any closer.

After that edge dropped short Joe Root donned the lid and went extremely close at second slip.

Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler are close at slip and keeper too.

    Edged!

Cheteshwar Pujara is playing with such soft hands that it drops well short of Jonny Bairstow, who is at third slip.

This pitch is slow too. There is next to no carry.

How come I always edged them!? There was obviously a feeling from England that there was something on it. It must be nice sneaky feeling as a batsman to know you haven't touched it and then they go for the review. You could almost try to fool the opposition: put your bat under your arm, pretend you have hit it, then come back to the crease to see if they review it.

If there was a noise it wasn't off the bat.

There's no movement on UltraEdge as the ball passes the outside edge.

It was a beauty from James Anderson though, moving away from Rahane.

Have England got Ajinkya Rahane caught behind?

"There was a noise", says James Anderson.

Jos Buttler is far from convinced.

India seem determined to cut Moeen Ali. It could get them in trouble soon. Cheteshwar Pujara almost gets a thin under edge through to Jos Buttler on that lest occasion.

Was that half a chance? Jonny Bairstow tried to catch that like a wicketkeeper with gloves on. India are dragging themsleves to a decent lead here.

This could be a big moment...

Ajinkya Rahane looks to cut Moeen Ali away, but doesn't quite time it and the ball loops to Jonny Bairstow at backward point.

Bairstow dives, low to his right, gets there, but the ball pops out.

He will be disappointed with that.

WinViz currently has the draw at 47%, with England at 28 and India 25.

The draw will be sneaking up and up the longer these two stay together in the middle. They aren't pushing the game forward quickly enough for India to win at this stage. That could quickly change when Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja get to the crease though.

"Change the game plan here, Moeen. Change the game plan", shouts Jos Buttler. England are doing their utmost to rev up the atmosphere, keep it loud and busy, but it is all pretty easy for India at the moment.

The new ball feels a long way away at the moment. It is 22 overs away.

  18. How's stat?!published at 16:16 British Summer Time 15 August 2021

    Andy Zaltzman

I can give you some stats about Cheteshwar Pujara coming down the wicket actually, Tuffers. When he comes down the wicket he averages 220. He has only been out four times coming down the wicket. He has scored 883 runs. Not a high scoring rate as he tends to come down the wicket and accumulate.

Back to solid, resolute defence from Cheteshwar Pujara for the rest of the over. We'll see his next bit of aggression in about 50 balls.

James Anderson and Joe Root have a chat again at the end of the over. They've been in conversation a lot during this Test.
