Ollie Pope got a great ovation and absolutely he deserved it. It's been a high-class innings. It's not a great delivery from Thakur, it's a bit unfortunate as a player when a ball riochets back on to the stumps and he had one earlier off Jasprit Bumrah, The ball just hit middle stump, but every know and again a bowler will think he deserves it. It's a really nice innings.

I have seen Pope play some nice knocks, particularly that hundred in South Africa. But that is the first I've watched him and thought 'there is a bit of a sheer classy player in Ollie Pope'. He has just got to stay fit, keep playing the way he has played in this innings in terms of the technical side. Whatever he is felt today, go and write it down. Thakur does little to change my mind by hanging the ball outside off to Woakes. Woakes is totally uninterested in chasing a wide one and that results in one of the most ineffective overs of the series.

Shardul Thakur has replaced Jasprit Bumrah. I don't want to be mean but Thakur's batting has been a lot better than his bowling so far.

There's an India fan in the ground with a very large (and tasty-looking) cake in his hand. He's wearing a T-shirt with 'Happy Birthday Mohammed Shami' on and the India bowler - rested from this game - has gone over to cut it! Amazing stuff.

My colleague Stephan said yesterday that The Oval may be the best ground in the country. As a northerner it hurts me to say I may agree. It looks a picture right now.

I'm having to hold myself back from saying how assured Ollie Pope looks because, well, you know what will happen next.

Sun cream perfectly spread across his cheeks, collar turned up, he wristily whips a single and saunters down to the other end in the afternoon sunshine.

India will need a big score in their second innings and you have to say the way the pitch is playing, a big score is possible.

Four more! Again it was a little edgy from Chris Woakes but neither he nor the 25,000 at the Oval care. All of a sudden the lead is up to 49.

Has Jasprit Bumrah got enough left in the tank to do what's needed for India this evening? He's bowled a lot of overs in this series. The ball is 71 overs old so the ball is softer as well.

Woakes makes it back-to-back boundaries to the delight of the Oval crowd.

There's a tattoo parlour around the corner from me. It also sells brownies, coffee and bagels. I've always thought it was an odd mix.

Anyway, back to important matters.

Bumrah bangs one in but it has little fizz on it - this ball is 70 overs old - and Woakes can poke it to the boundary.
