  1. 'A brilliant spell of bowling bust it open for India'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    BBC Test Match Special

England captain Joe Root on Test Match Special: "It’s frustrating. All three results were on the table. I thought we set a platform to go on and win the game. It was a brilliant spell of bowling that bust it open for India.

"We’ve got to look at the whole game. Our catching has to improve. We’ll do dome learning. The good thing is we don’t have to long to dwell on it.

"It’s been a fantastic series. You want to be on the right side of the results, but the quality has been high. I expect the same at Old Trafford.

"The injuries we’ve had are frustrating. We have to manage it as best as we can.

"There is a lot going on. It’s good, hard Test cricket. We’ll be right up for it again when we get to Old Trafford."

Genuinely feel in both the tests we've lost in this series we've chucked away chances to win through lack of composure and poor catching. We are not far off but need to seize these key moments.

  4. England 'haven't been able to able to handle the pressure'published at 16:52 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

The old Test deficiencies came to roost this week - the catching, we've said it for a long time but the catching isn't good enough.

The bowling, unless it is swinging and seaming, four bowlers around the 80mph - they are as good as any when it is moving - but in the second innings they looked a gallop short.

With the bat the 290 was too light and in the second innings when they put under a huge amount of pressure they came short. They haven't been able to able to handle the pressure with the bat for a long time.

Root says England will "take some learnings".

He is pointing to errors across the whole Test rather than just today.

For a day and a half this was an England Test match wicket, where it moved around a bit, and England competed.

As soon as it became a Test wicket that you get overseas - no swing, no seam, a little bit of spin, you needed some pace and variation and batters to bat a long time - as soon as it became that kind of wicket England have been very poor.

  9. India 'high class'published at 16:48 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

It has been a tremendous Test match. It is fantastic Test victory for India. They have been questioned, particularly on day one and they came back on day two with the ball.

England's 290 in the first innings felt so light. India batted beautifully in the second innings.

Today's bowling performance was as good as fourth-innings bowling display as we've seen for a long, long time. It was high class.

It's not easy to put your finger on one thing that cost England the match.

Was it when they let India get away a little from 127-7 on day one? When they were 62-5 in reply? When they didn't press home their advantage from 222-6? When they dropped Rohit twice before he made a hundred in India's second innings? Or when they collapsed today?

Let me know what you think.

I'd say all of the above.

It was dropped catches for England. It is the biggest cliche in the book but catches win matches and England dropped about four in the game. They just haven't been on it, and there were a couple of run out chances missed too.

England just haven't quite been at the races, but take nothing away from India. They have been top class.

Tuffers is calling Shardul Thakur for player of the match. He got the biggest hug of all from Virat Kohli at the end.

His fifty on day one was crucial. He took three wickets too.

When it countered and when it mattered India raised their game and England couldn't do anything about it.

They were blown away in the afternoon session.

There's a spike! Jimmy Anderson is last man out.

That makes it a bit of an anti-climatic finish but India have sealed a famous victory.

They take a 2-1 lead with one game to play.
