This is not an attack where you could really judge England's batsmen. We've seen Sibley, Burns and Crawley against good attacks.

Still raining...
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
Lawrence looks a player. He's not faced a great attack but you've still got to do it. He controlled his game. He played a drive through extra-cover - it was Pietersen-esque. He looks like a player who hasn't been coached; he looks natural.

Adam Savoury: Dan Lawrence looked confident and assured. Unfortunately for him though, he's currently batting in Ben Stokes' spot.

The financial model in Sri Lanka is nowhere near that of England, Australia or India. England have had two or three squads going away every winter. India, you only have to look at the job Rahul Dravid is doing with the younger players and how well they are doing
If the game not careful the powerhouses will get better and better and the lesser nations with no finances will get worse and worse.
Test cricket is the best format but it is the worst without a contest. I love Test cricket when we are not sure who is going to win going into day four.

Neil Cooper: Dan Lawrence’s Dad on @bbctms has been the highlight of my morning. A proud father who didn’t realise he was live on the radio. Brilliant!
Dave: Dan Lawrence’s dad on @bbctms is just everything I love about cricket. Passionate, proud and fun. “This isn’t live is it?” 15 minutes into live interview is my cricketing moment of 2021.
One final sheet has gone on at Galle. Sigh.
Be a good press conference with Dan Lawrence later, when we all ask him if we can be best mates with his dad.

Oli: Dan Lawrence’s dad sounds like a right laugh Lovely interview that.
Travelling Hammer: What a great interview with Mark Lawrence on @bbctms get him on every morning!
The Galle groundstaff are the best in the world. So quick.

Jack Olsburgh: The strange thing with Root recently, is for all of his general inability to convert half-centuries to centuries, the second he gets to a hundred he converts it to a daddy one at will!
There are more covers coming on in Galle, I'm afraid to say.
Dan Lawence's dad is SUPERB.
"I was only a club player, I can't tell him what to do!"
More from Dan Lawrence's dad, Mark, on TMS: "I am so pleased for him but not being out there is a bit upsetting. I'd love to be out there but it is what it is.
"I don't say a word to him. I was only a club player. I haven't got the right to tell a professional player, whether he is my son or not, how to play.
"He has people around him to advise him. I will just give him friendly encouragement. It is not my job. If he gets out playing a silly shot I am not going to say 'Dan, that is ridiculous'. It is not my job."
Sigh.

BBC Test Match Special
Dan Lawrence's dad, Mark, on TMS: "It is just unbelievable. It is literally amazing. I don't know what to say really!
"The last six months with the family, what has happened [the death of his mother] it is just amazing. Hopefully it has cheered everyone up that knows him. It is just amazing.
"What amazes me is I have seen him against seamers in the County Championship and he looks like he has that little more time but this has just shown me how good he is against spin. I am not shocked - just so pleased for him. It is turning large out there.
"As a youngster he picked the bat up and that was it. He just knew straight away. He adored the game. He used to take the bat and gloves to bed with him when he was very young. He used to run home school, get out of his school uniform and bat."
Meanwhile, Dan Lawrence's proud dad, Mark, has been chatting to TMS about his son's debut.
I don't need sound on my feed to tell me it's HOSING down.
I think I might be a jinx...
Cheers, Callum. I'm basically watching a silent movie. It's quite pleasing.
Not a bad day for England, is it? As starts to a massive year of cricket go, your captain making his first ton for 14 months and away from home to boot isn't a bad one.
