That is going to give England a bit of a boost. If they can get one or two more quickly, Sri Lanka might just fall down.

Dinesh Chandimal is off the mark with a nice cover drive for an easy two.

This is the partnership now if Sri Lanka are to get something out of this game - Chandimal and Mathews, captain and former captain.
That was just what England needed.
Skipper Dinesh Chandimal lets his first delivery from Sam Curran sail through to the keeper.

Great delivery from Sam Curran. He does that so many times. It just shaped to go away from off stump, and it jagged back and took the inside edge. A great breakthrough for England.

It's a decent catch by Jos Buttler and the new ball has worked!

Lovely!
Sam Curran has produced a ripper of a delivery to end Lahiru Thirimanne's long vigil. This delivery nips back in to the batsman, sharp enough to surprise him and take the inside edge, and Jos Buttler takes a fine, tumbling catch to his left. Breakthrough!
If this is what India are doing with a second and possibly third string team in Australia, what will they do at home with a first choice team?
How can you not admire what India have achieved in this Test series in Australia?
Bowled out for 36 in the first Test, they won the second, clung on for a draw in the third and are attempting to dig themselves out of another hole in the decisive final Test in Brisbane.
Decimated by injuries and reduced to 186-6 in reply to the hosts' 369, India appeared to be careering towards defeat.
But Washington Sundar, on debut, and Shardul Thakur, playing his second Test, have hit superb unbeaten fifties to steer the tourists to 292-6 in the final session of day three.
Oh, and Australia captain Tim Paine has dropped another catch.
Some loopy away swing for Mark Wood to Angelo Mathews, who just about manages to jab his bat down on a full delivery and stop his stumps getting splattered. Maiden.
Here is Mark Wood.
From one Test century to another - just the eight years between them. We know Thirimanne got himself a new arm guard in that time.
Tuffers might get his wish, as Mark Wood is loosening up.
There's a hint of away swing for Sam Curran as he bowls to Lahiru Thirimanne, and the opener works his way through a maiden.

Let's have a little bit of Mark Wood too.
I want four overs of him steaming in and then he can go and have a rest for the rest of the day.
Sam Curran will have first dip with the new ball.

Matt Mehdi-Daley: The opening hour and a quarter of play has given me no hope of a lie-in tomorrow morning.
And England take it straight away.
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
The issue for England here is that they are on a pitch that is offering quite a bit to the spin department. In a couple of weeks they'll go to India and it probably won't offer quite as much as this and they are up against some higher quality players. This isn't a great start.
Short from Jack Leach once again, and Angelo Mathews is disappointed he didn't get it to the boundary rope.
There's the odd good ball from Leach, finally bringing Lahiru Thirimanne forward, but there's no follow up. There hasn't been from any of England's spinners. And that could be a real problem as this mammoth winter tour schedule progresses.
Tim Paine has just dropped a catch at the Gabba, by the way.
