Back-to-back reverse sweeps for four takes Ben Stokes to his 33rd 50-plus score in Test cricket.

He's had to battle, and he's had a little bit of luck in the last few overs, but it has been another superb knock from Stokes.

He's putting pressure on the bowlers.

Joe Douglas: 150 for Root, only looked in trouble once with the India review, apart from that almost a perfect Sub-Continent performance!

Andy: Joe Root showing in 2021 that form is temporary, class is permanent.

Jenifer Moore: There it is. Never in doubt. 150.

  4. Eng 328-3published at 112 overs

    What is going on!?!

Ben Stokes nudges into the on-side and he sets off for a single, Root agrees one is on, but Washington Sundar is running round from square leg and a direct hit would have seen Root out by an absolute mile.

It was a poor throw from Washington. A better one and Rishabh Pant may have still been able to run Root out. Sloppy.

In case you've, somehow, missed it this is Joe Root's 100th Test for England.

We didn't get to this yesterday so we may as well now he's just got to his 150.

We want to hear your favourite Root memories - it doesn't necessarily have to be one of his highest scores, maybe it's a certain innings or catch. Maybe you've met him at Headingley or Lord's.

Send them in using #bbccricket or by texting 81111. All we ask is that the moment you send is from a Test match.

  6. 6 runs

    Eng 326-3published at 111 overs

    Root 150, Stokes 41

    Ah, Ben Stokes.

Undeterred by what has happened in the last 10 minutes he slog-sweeps again and sends Shahbaz Nadeem about 15 rows back.

This has been like live texting an one-dayer in the last few overs. Chaotic.

  7. 150 runs

150 for Joe Rootpublished at 05:32 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Rooooot!

Superb from the England spinner as he nudges a single into the covers to move to 150 for the third time in three Tests.

What an innings. What form he is in.

  8. dropped catch

Stokes dropped on 32published at 110.2 overs

    And again!

Ben Stokes gets down on one knee, slog-sweeping, and Ajinkya Rahane dives across and gets his left paw on it but it goes down.

It's probably fairer to say he's saved two runs there, but India have to take one of these chances.

Calm down Stokesy!! A wicket here could bring a few. Just need to stick in, can reap the rewards later in the day.

Joe Root and Ben Stokes need to dig in here.

This has been a very similar session to yesterday morning - two wickets now, like happened then, and India would probably be happy again.

    Root is on 149.

  11. dropped catch

Stokes dropped on 31published at 109.3 overs

This game needs to calm down! It's set alight in the last 10 minutes.

Ben Stokes tries to drive over mid-off, but skews it slightly, and it flies towards Ravichandran Ashwin in his follow through, and the ball cannons off his right wrist and away for a single.

A tough chance, but a chance.

  12. Eng 314-3published at 109 overs

This pitch has definitely livened up a touch today.

We had that one that kept low to Joe Root a few overs ago, and now one rears up at Ben Stokes, out of the rough, but he does well to drop his hands and the ball lands safely.

    A beauty from Shahbaz Nadeem.

  13. Not outpublished at 05:23 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

Maybe not. I'd make a terrible umpire.

Hawkeye shows that the ball is going over the top of the stumps by a good few inches.

India have burned two reviews in a matter of minutes.

  14. Postpublished at 05:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    There's no bat.

Root could be in trouble here.

  15. India reviewpublished at 05:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

India go upstairs again for an lbw against Joe Root this time.

    This is closer.

Just a single off the over.

  18. Not outpublished at 05:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

Wow. That is one of the worst reviews I have ever seen - rivalling Tim Paine at Headingley.

It clearly thuds into the glove, and everybody knows it because the slip and Rishabh Pant go scurrying off trying to catch it as the ball loops up.

Pathetic from India. Virat will be seething.

  19. India reviewpublished at 05:19 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Desperation?

India have reviewed an lbw shout against Ben Stokes as he looks to sweep.

I'm 99.9% he gloved this because the keeper and slip ran off trying to catch it.

  20. Eng 312-3published at 107 overs

That's a bit loose from Joe Root as he drives at Nadeem. It's in the air but it loops between the two fielders in the covers.

    Root moves to 146.
