Andy: Watching Ben Stokes bat is something you get up super early to watch. So far, yet to be disappointed.

Ishant takes two wickets in two balls in final hour of day
Root hits 218 - his fifth double-century - before being trapped lbw
Stokes - dropped twice in his 30s - hits aggressive 82

Another maiden. England are doing the hard yards hoping they can capitalise later on in the day. They scored 123 runs in the final session yesterday so there are runs to be had in the afternoon if you battle hard.
There's a tiny bit of movement for Ishant this morning, and that allows him to beat Root's defences and cannon one into his pads, but it was sliding down.
Ishant Sharma, who took 0-27 from 15 overs yesterday, replaces Jasprit Bumrah.
Root 135, Stokes 10
Back-to-back maidens for India.
There are signs of a bit more spin this morning as Ashwin gets one to clip a patch of rough and there's a bit of extra bounce and a hint of turn.
Problem for India is, at the moment, that rough is pretty wide on the pitch so it is easy for Ben Stokes to leave.

People talking about alarms and waking up...I still haven't gone to bed yet...Lockdown is doing odd things to sleeping patterns.
Mark in Northwich
Root sees out a maiden from Jasprit Bumrah.
He's looked pretty good fitness wise this morning by the way. The odd limp, but on the whole fit as a flea.
We're onto the Ashes in our team chat this morning.
Joe Root & Ben Stokes or Steve Smith & Marnus Labuschagne?
Thumbs up for the English pair, thumbs down for the Aussie duo. Try to not wear your rose-tinted spectacles.
Root 135, Stokes 10
"Game on", says Mark Butcher as Ashwin spins one past Ben Stokes' bat to end the over.
Yes, Ben Stokes!
What a shot that is.
The left-hander has been incredibly respectful this morning, as he often in, looking to get himself in, but from nowhere he just opens his arms and slots Ashwin back over his head for six.
Love that. If England put Ashwin and India under pressure then Virat has got some serious problems.

Possibly the only good thing about babies and night feeds, wide awake in time for the cricket!
Ben, Solihull
Root 135, Stokes 4
Shot! Jasprit Bumrah drops a touch wide, and Joe Root rocks back and carves through backward point for four more.
England look comfortable again this morning.

Bowser: My daughter was born on the 10/1/21 and Joe Root has hit a century in every Test since. She's a good luck charm.
A feature of an excellent day for England yesterday was picking up quick singles and it happens again as Joe Root tucks Ashwin into the leg side.
It's excellent cricket for England. They know they can't let too much pressure build.

Frank Maguire: Woke up naturally at 3.57am...one minute before my alarm went off waking my girlfriend. 200+ is now written in the stars for Root.
Butlins McCarthy: It’s absolutely hammering it down with rain outside in Joe’s home city, good news is it’s woken me up just in time for the cricket. Come on Joe!
Root 130, Stokes 4
Wow! Jasprit Bumrah's yorkers are absolutely insane. He fires another one in, and Ben Stokes just, and I mean just, jars his bat down in time. It comes off the inner bottom of the bat, hits his back pad and just misses the stumps.
I can't decide if Stokes is lucky there, or has done superbly.
He gets off the mark with a guide through a gap in the slip cordon for four. He plays that shot so well.
I'm with you on that one, Ross.

Ross: 4:30am felt ok for Sri Lanka tests, 4am feels like the middle of the night...
Ben Stokes sees out the rest of the over.
England were very respectful of Ashwin yesterday, and I imagine that'll be the case again today.
They'll try and pick up runs off the other spinners Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar.
England and Joe Root get off the mark for the day with a push into the covers for a single.
Ravichandran Ashwin is going to share bowling duties first up this morning.
