A fascinating session which belonged to Worcestershire but was book-ended by important wickets for Essex.

After Sam Cook struck for the fourth time, removing Brett D’Oliveira with the second ball of the day, Jake Libby and Riki Wessels combined for a largely untroubled fifth-wicket partnership of 89.

Libby, who averaged over 50 last year, continued to look a fine acquisition for Worcestershire.

He played Simon Harmer with as much comfort as anyone at Chelmsford in recent seasons.

It took a classic off-cutter from Jamie Porter (pictured above) to dismiss Wessels for 54 and break the partnership, but Libby remains unbeaten on the same score.

With a poor afternoon forecast, the visitors still have a chance of saving this match.

  4. 'Surrey have work to do'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    Gloucestershire 326 v Surrey 220 & 70-3

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London at Bristol

It has always felt that Gloucestershire have had a hold on this game. And with three wickets this morning they will be enjoying their lunch.

Surrey knew today was all about batting and they started with a 106 run deficit to overcome.. Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman were both dropped twice, but Stoneman eventually fell to Ryan Higgins for 16. Matt Taylor then took the big wickets of Hashim Amla and Ollie pope without a run between them and the dropped catches were already a distant memory.

Burns is unbeaten on 41 and Surrey have lots of work to do this afternoon.

  5. Snow stopping Glamorgan?published at 13:28 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    Glamorgan (330 & 161-4) lead Yorkshire (193) by 298 runs

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales at Headingley

Glamorgan could face frustration at Headingley this afternoon after heavy sleet turned the ground white during the lunch interval.

A full two-hour first session saw Glamorgan add 93 runs without loss to extend their lead to 298.

Billy Root is having a match to remember with an unbeaten 77 to add to his first-innings 43, while Chris Cooke has compiled a watchful 57 not out.

Yorkshire are without two of their four front-line seamers, Ben Coad with a pec injury and Matthew Fisher with an abdominal strain, so the weather intervention came at a good time for them.

Showers signal lunch at Headingleypublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    Glamorgan (330 & 161-4) lead Yorkshire (193) by 298 runs

Showers have been lingering for the last half an hour, but they've finally got a bit heavier in Leeds to force the players off just a few minutes before lunch.

Glamorgan well on top as they make it through the morning session unscathed thanks to Billy Root (77 not out) and Chris Cooke's (57 not out) 132-run partnership to be 298 ahead of Yorkshire.

  10. Honours even after Moores cameo?published at 13:05 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

Nottinghamshire (267) trail Durham (330) by 63 runs

    Martin Emmerson
BBC Radio Newcastle at Trent Bridge

Notts eventually got to within 63 runs of Durham's first innings total of 330, before being dismissed for 267, thanks to some early-season fielding.

Having been dropped on eight yesterday, Tom Moores was eventually stranded on 96 today as last man Jake Ball was yorked on four by Brydon Carse. The bowler eventually finished with 4-86, but had two chances put down today.

The first saw Brett Hutton dropped at first slip by David Bedingham in the early exchanges. It looked a straightforward chance. He was on 24 at the time and went on to make 51, his first half-century since 2017. He also added 89 for the eighth wicket with Moores.

Moores was also put down on 79 when hooking Carse to long-leg. Jack Burnham had ages to watch the ball coming down and dropped it over the ropes for four.

As well as Carse taking four, Matt Salisbury also took 4-74.

  12. 'Game on' at HQpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    Somerset (172 & 0-0) need 285 runs to beat Middlesex (313 & 143)

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset at Lord's

Middlesex have collapsed from 127-4 to 143 all out.

It means that Somerset will need 285 to win - unlikely on a pitch that has been offering the seam bowlers intermittent movement throughout, but not impossible.

The Somerset bowlers shared the honours, reaping the rewards of accuracy and persistence. It's game on.

    Wessels lbw b Porter 54 (Essex 490-9 dec v Worcestershire 132-5)

Essex with a very welcome breakthrough and a first wicket of the game for Jamie Porter.

Riki Wessels is pinned back in his crease by one that nips back on him and he is plumb leg before.

End of a fine 54 from Wessels and an impressive partnership worth 89 between him and Jake Libby (52 not out) for that fifth wicket.

Somerset will need 285 to win.

Jack Leach claims the final wicket as Ethan Bamber tries to sweep him to finish with 3-18.

That's some collapse by Middlesex - they lost their last six wickets for 16 runs.

    That'll be lunch.

  15. Notts all outpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

Nottinghamshire (267) trail Durham (330) by 63 runs

Nottinghamshire finally dismissed in their first innings at Trent Bridge as Jake Ball is the last man to fall.

Tom Moores finishes unbeaten on 96 at the other end as he runs out of partners.

Four wickets apiece for Matt Salisbury and Brydon Carse in that innings.

That gives Durham a lead of 63 after Notts showed some fight in their lower-order this morning.

    Group 3 update

Gloucestershire have got the prize wicket of Hashim Amla and he's gone for a duck. Surrey are now 48-2, still trailing by 58, but Rory Burns is there on 29.

Leicestershire have been asked to follow on against Hampshire. They're 12-0 in their second innings - 398 adrift.

for Chris Cookepublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

    Glamorgan (330 & 148-4) lead Yorkshire (193) by 285 runs

50 up for Glamorgan skipper Chris Cooke with a handsome straight drive for four off part-time seamer Harry Brook.

Glamorgan firmly in control of this one against a Yorkshire side without injured seamers Ben Coad and Matthew Fisher for the rest of the match.
