    What. A. Catch.

Out of nowhere, Notts have their wicket.

George Balderson pulls a short one but is shocked to see Dane Paterson dive low to his right at short-leg to pluck the speeding ball out of the air.

Sensational stuff as a fine knock comes to an end.

Lancashire trail by 254 now with all-rounder George Balderson still looking comfortable on 75 not out.

A much better start to this session for the visitors. For the first time this match Nottinghamshire look unsure what to do next.

    How Hampshire needed that.

The visitors make a bowling change and former Bear Keith Barker strikes in his first over back.

Michael Burgess is out, caught behind to leave Warwickshire six down. 84 runs still needed for victory.

    Are Hampshire the favourites now?

    Oh no!

Rob Keogh is gone for 99! The Northants batsman clips Jordan Clark to mid-wicket. He's distraught as he trundles off.

This game is back in the balance with Northants still needing 115 for victory.

Sussex 217-1 v Middlesex 676-5 dec - lunch, day three

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Runs continue to flow on a very flat pitch at Hove, where 893 runs have now been scored, and just six wickets taken, in seven sessions.

The speedy Blake Cullen took the only wicket to fall when Orr was caught behind off the 7th ball of the morning, but thereafter Tom Haines and Ben Brown have looked in little difficulty, adding an unbroken 116 for the second wicket.

Haines hit 16 fours in reaching his third Championship century of the season, whilst Brown has rattled along, his unbeaten 76 coming in just 98 deliveries.

The Middlesex bowlers have toiled away in the heat, but on a pitch offering little or no help, this game already looks set for a draw.

  12. Hants took a chance on Abbaspublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 8 September 2021

Warwickshire 195-5 (target 296) v Hants - lunch, day four

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Hampshire looked to have been dealt a huge blow at Edgbaston last night when Pakistan international Mohammad Abbas had to be helped off in the final session with an ankle injury.

Early indications were that he would not bowl today. But, however Hampshire have managed to patch him up, he's already been highly influential.

    Mohammad AbbasImage source, Rex Features

He has already bowled six overs, looks to be running in smoothly and has also taken the key wickets of Sam Hain and Will Rhodes, both caught behind.

The suggestion from the all-seeing eyes in the BBC radio commentary box downstairs is that he may even have suffered the injury treading on the ball, after dropping it while starting to run in.

An international fast bowler turning his ankle treading on the ball? At Edgbaston? Now why does that ring bells?

    Rhodes c Alsop b Mohammad Abbas 17 (Warwickshire 191-5 - target 296 v Hampshire)

    Huge breakthrough right before lunch!

He may be carrying an injury, but even a 50% fit Mohammad Abbas is a scary prospect.

He gets Bears skipper Will Rhodes with an outswinger with five minutes left in the session.

We are in for some finish here folks.
