  1. Tea at the Kia Ovalpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Surrey 161 & 60-1 v Essex 439

So far, so reasonable for Surrey, who reach the interval with only one wicket down after having to follow on.

Cameron Steel is 24 not out and Hashim Amla has added 14 to the 84 he made in Surrey's first innings before he was ninth to go.

In theory, there are a minimum of 34 overs still to be bowled, but it's doubtful the game will go that far barring a sudden rush of wickets.

    Orr lbw Parkinson 34 (Leicestershire 492-4 dec v Sussex 359 & 57-1)

The previous ball - a full toss - disappeared square for four, but Callum Parkinson now has the wicket of Ali Orr, whose defensive stroke was beaten beaten by one that hurried on to him. Ben Brown - a first-innings centurion - is in at three with Sussex still 76 in arrears.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Melton lbw Podmore 1 (Derbys 156 & 175-9 v Kent 285 & 211-2 dec)

A full length delivery, Dustin Melton misses as he tries to play to leg and he is out. Just one more wicket needed now by Kent and Sam Conners will be batting with a runner.

  4. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Leicestershire 492-4 dec v Sussex 359 & 41-0

No major alarms for Sussex at the start of their second innings.

Ali Orr is 24 not out and Tom Haines, the Championship's leading scorer in 2021, is on 15.

They trail by 92 but this one looks like a nailed-on draw at this stage.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Aitchison c Gilchrist b Singh 36 (Derbys 156 & 172-8 v Kent 285 & 211-2 dec)

Ben Aitchison slices Jas Singh over the slips for four and launches the next one over mid-off for another.

Emboldened to try his luck a third time, Aitchison holes out and departs for 36 after adding 70 with Anuj Dal.

  6. Surrey face Harmer threatpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Surrey 161 & 42-1 v Essex 439

There's been little sign of a Surrey collapse after they were asked to follow-on at the Kia Oval.

Spinner Simon Harmer is now back in action for Essex with men round the bat and has taken the only wicket to fall, Ryan Patel caught superbly at second slip by Dan Lawrence for 17, a really sharp low chance.

Cameron Steel is 22 not out, and Hashim Amla is back out there again following his 84 in the first innings.

  7. MIDDLESEX BEAT WORCESTERSHIREpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 15 September 2021
    Breaking

    Middlesex (144 & 247) beat Worcestershire (171 & 119) by 101 runs

Number 11 Dillon Pennington (one) edges Ethan Bamber (4-28) behind to the keeper to hand Middlesex their fourth win on the trot.

Chasing 221 runs on the final day we thought this match would be in the balance. But Worcestershire have collapsed after lunch unable to handle the hosts' terrific pace attack.

  8. Derbyshire duo offer resistancepublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Derbyshire 156 & 157-7 v Kent 285 & 211-2 dec

Just when it looked like Derbyshire were sliding towards defeat, Anuj Dal and Ben Aitchison have given them belated hope of survival.

The former picks up a stylish boundary through the covers off Jas Singh at the end of the latest over and these two have now added 55 since the dismissal of Brooke Guest.

Dal is 29 not out and Aitchison has 26, but the home side are still 180 short of wiping out the deficit.

  9. wicket

WICKET Morris b Andersson 1published at 14:40 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Middlesex 144 & 247 v Worcestershire 171 & 118-9

Five wickets for 24 runs as yet another stump goes cartwheeling at Lord's.

Martin Andersson is the latest Middlesex bowler to remove a tailender as he beats Charlie Morris for pace.

Middlesex are one wicket away from winning a fourth red-ball match in a row for the first time since 1995.

Will the County Championship title be decided by cricketing skill or by fate? Here's a little food for thought on that subject.....

From @Chimpan96530052: "#bbccricket, external Hants two championships have come when it’s been the year of the buffalo - 1961 and 1973. Guess what 2021 is the year of?"

    Do you believe, Hampshire fans?

  11. wicket

WICKET Baker b Bamber 2published at 14:33 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Middlesex 144 & 247 v Worcestershire 171 & 115-8

    Two in the over.

Ethan Bamber collects his 47th wicket of the season and it's a carbon copy, using the slope to swing one back to the off stump.

Josh Baker's been made to look like a fool. Great pace bowling.

  12. wicket

WICKET Leach b Bamber 11published at 14:29 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Middlesex 144 & 247 v Worcestershire 171 & 113-7

And Middlesex also grab their fourth wicket in this session as Ethan Bamber gets one swinging back on to the stumps.

Joe Leach goes for a quick 11. Josh Baker is the latest to partner Gareth Roderick (41 not out) with the Pears requiring 108 to in.

  13. wicket

WICKET Procter lbw b Raine 44published at 14:26 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Northamptonshire 183 & 129-7 v Durham 400

    Ben RaineImage source, Getty Images

A fourth wicket for Durham in the afternoon session and with this I think it's match point.

Luke Procter falls for a 105-ball 44, to leave two new batsman at the crease.

The visitors need three more wickets to win. Northamptonshire need another 88 runs just to make them bat again.

  14. Leicestershire call a haltpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Leicestershire 492-4 dec v Sussex 359

    Louis KimberImage source, Rex Features

Leicestershire lead by 133 as skipper Callum Parkinson brings their first innings to an end.

Harry Swindells finishes on 69 not out from 59 balls, with Louis Kimber making 59 from 52 - they added 130 in 19 overs.

Can the Foxes force a Sussex second-innings collapse? If not, this one will be a draw.

  15. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Leicestershire 478-4 v Sussex 359

Louis Kimber lofts Delray Rawlins high and handsome for six as Sussex complete their 100th over in the Leicestershire innings.

Kimber is 49 not out and partner Harry Swindells has 65 off 60 balls - they have added 116 so far.

Tom Hinley relieves Joseph Sarro, whose nine overs have cost 64. Anyone else think his surname sounds like something from a sci-fi TV show like Star Trek or, going a long way back, Blake's 7?

  16. wicket

WICKET Ben Cox lbw b Andersson 4published at 14:06 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Middlesex 144 & 247 v Worcestershire 171 & 98-6

    Two in four balls!

Ben Cox doesn't last long, hitting a four first ball but getting pinned leg before off his third.

Middlesex need just four more wickets to win.

    They're in the driving seat.

  17. Surrey follow-on against Essexpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    D2: Surrey 161 & 0-0 v Essex 439

As expected, Essex have made Surrey follow-on at the Kia Oval.

Jamie Porter starts off with a maiden to Cameron Steel in the home side's second innings.

It will be Sam Cook from the other end to Ryan Patel. Both Surrey openers are on a pair.

  18. wicket

WICKET Barnard c Simpson b Andersson 28published at 14:02 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Middlesex 144 & 247 v Worcestershire 171 & 94-5

Our live text is now a sea of blue as yet another wicket falls in a tight game.

This time it's Worcestershire's Ed Barnard walking, caught by John Simpson off the bowling of Martin Anderson.

Ben Cox joins Gareth Roderick (40 not out) at the crease with the Pears needing another 127 runs to win.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Guest c Robinson b Gilchrist 12 (Derbys 156 & 104-7 v Kent 285 & 211-2 dec)

Three wickets now for Nathan Gilchrist as a fine leg-cutter accounts for Brooke Guest at Derby. Ollie Robinson only just got the gloves under the ball but Guest is gone.

  20. Bears showed 'character' - Robinsonpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 15 September 2021

    Mark RobinsonImage source, Getty Images

Warwickshire are second in Division One following their 106-run victory over Yorkshire this morning. Here's what head coach Mark Robinson told BBC 5 live sports extra about their performance:

"I'm so pleased with the team. We showed a lot of character to bounce back from what was a slow death last week.

"We gave away a game we should've won against Hampshire - we had three opportunities to put it to bed and didn't do it.

"The concern or worry is that there's a hangover into this match. We lose the toss, batted both innings in dark cloud and showed the character and skill to come out on the right side of what was a big win in the end.

"To then set yourself up so you can go into the last game of the season with a chance of winning everything, that's all you ever want."
