  1. New ball due soonpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 257-2

There are four overs left until the new ball as Parkinson and Wells continue to scuttle through the overs.

Will Rhodes will know that too. Now on 71, he could have a tricky spell to navigate if he wants to make it to three figures.

Will Rhodes almost wipes out Rob Jones at short leg when Luke Wells drops short. And a Wells full toss is also deposited to the boundary.

Never mind the fact that he's the Warwickshire captain, a true Yorkshireman like Rhodes will want to make Lancashire suffer as much as he can.

  4. wicket

WICKET Yates c Wells b Parkinson 113published at 13:40 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 243-2

Almost from nowhere, Lancashire have conjured up a wicket.

Rob Yates decides to dance down the wicket to Matt Parkinson but the ball grips and catches the edge of his bat. It flies low to slip where Luke Wells takes a good catch.

Yates gets a good hand from his team-mates and the crowd for a lovely hundred, but maybe he will feel he could have bettered his career-best score of 132.

  5. Season's best there for the takingpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 243-1

Clive Eakin on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra has said that Warwickshire have not reached 400 in a match all season.

They will never have a better chance to reach that score than from this position. Of course, they may want to declare before that and test Lancashire's batting before close of play.

Let's be honest - Neil Smith probably remembers his six at Lord's more fondly than his problem with a dodgy pizza in Peshawar!

The ECB is currently considering the format for the 2022 County Championship. Should they stick to the three divisions format of this summer of revert to two, with promotion and relegation?

Here's one opinion on the subject. What's yours?

Tim Symes: "re 3 divisions. Div 1 was competitive aside Somerset, who were poor. Likewise Div 2 aside Essex, who were streets ahead. Div 3, all 6 teams were equally matched. So as long as prize money is fair, let it continue. #bbccricket, external."

Will Rhodes steers one past Matt Parkinson and it runs all the way down the Lord's slope for four more to bring up the 100 partnership.

The Bears captain must be loving this scenario.

  9. No ball from a spinner!published at 13:30 British Summer Time 29 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 v Warwickshire 229-1

Kevin Howells has jokingly described it as 'totally inexcusable' but Matt Parkinson has just sent down his second no-ball of the innings.

I'm sure there are plenty of readers who would be much less forgiving!

Luke Wells has the ball in his hand as the players are ready to resume.

Will this Warwickshire run-fest continue or can Lancashire somehow stem the tide?

As Ian Bell mentioned before lunch, the new ball is only a few overs away at Lord's.

There may be neutral observers hoping for a few Lancashire wickets this afternoon - perhaps not many from Yorkshire, though - after four dominant sessions by county champions Warwickshire.

If those wickets don't materialise, the next three and a bit days could be very long ones indeed for the Red Rose county - although the weather forecast is apparently not great after today.

There was a caught and bowled chance for spinner Matt Parkinson just before the interval, but he couldn't cling on (see photo).

My gut feeling is that Warwickshire will just keep batting and batting and batting. The impression I have is they want to go on as long as possible and give Lancashire absolutely no chance in this game."

Matt Parkinson twirls away from one final over before the interval. Will Rhodes is happy to defend so he can return well-fed and ready for more runs this afternoon.

With 104 runs for the loss of Dom Sibley, it's been another outstanding session for Warwickshire as they now lead by 146.

A life for Rob Yates. He sends a tough return catch to Matt Parkinson, but the leggie can't cling on to a difficult chance low down.

Nothing has gone right from Lancashire ever since Warwickshire won the toss yesterday morning.
