There's a cheer from the New Zealand contingent in the crowd as Devon Conway slog-sweeps the England captain for a handsome four.

Mark Wood has bowled his heart out today.

  4. NZ 217-3published at 75 overs

Mark Wood, as he so often does, puts all his effort into a delivery and ends up toppling over as he lands back on the pitch.

Wood pleads with Richard Kettleborough for an lbw against Henry Nicholls but it doesn't quite look right, and the umpire turns it down with a shake of the head.

The second new ball will be crucial for England. So far it has been New Zealand's day. They won a good toss and the pitch has been good.

I once bowled Phil Tufnell at a T20 finals day. I say ‘bowled’ - I was eight, using a tennis ball and he was suitably refreshed, shall we say. Still, the ball turned an absolute mile!

  8. NZ 217-3published at 74 overs

I'll say one thing for Joe Root, he doesn't half rattle through an over quickly.

  9. NZ 216-3published at 73 overs

James Anderson continues, which seems strange with the new ball not too far away, but it only costs a single.

  11. NZ 215-3published at 72 overs

Shot! Devon Conway breaks the deadlock as he leans back and chops Joe Root away through deep cover for four. Lovely. That'll be the 100 partnership up, too.

I dismissed Andrew Flintoff for Glocestershire U15s against Lancashire Under-15s when they came to Stroud on tour. I say dismissed: he smashed me for 60-odd before he got a top edge and Ed Balderstone took a diving catch on the boundary. Thanks Ed.

Jack Leach is sat on the benches outside the Pavilion mixing drinks for the players. He's not doing a bad job of it, actually. Very neat and tidy.

James Anderson keeps things interesting with a smattering of deliveries that just brush past Conway's off stump.

This slow over-rate is not only robbing the crowd of 8-10% of today's overs but is also going to rob England of two decent spells with the second new ball. If we only manage 81-82 overs today rather than the full 90 then we only get one or two overs tonight with the new ball. If we got the full 90 overs in today then the last 10 of those would be with the new ball, then in the morning it would only be 10 overs old and we’d have another go at NZ while they were cold.

Henry Nicholls nabs a single from the final ball of Joe Root's over.

Smart work from James Bracey, but it goes unrewarded.

Nicholls did drag his back foot out of the crease but it looks as though he's shoved his toes over just in time.

Bit of turn from Joe Root and it just beats the outside edge of Henry Nicholls' bat...

Hello, has James Bracey stumped Henry Nicholls?

    We're going upstairs...
