Can't believe we've had a full day's play and there hasn't been a single shot of Colin de Grandhomme and his frankly exquisite mullet. Even Jeremy Coney described it as "magnificent" a little earlier.

    On come the drinks.

    Conway 117, Nicholls 28

Mark Wood bowls a frankly heroic 15th over, still bending his back and sending down short balls and bouncers to keep Henry Nicholls alert.

Here's the moment Devon Conway reached a century on his Test debut.

  9. NZ 206-3published at 67 overs

Four for Henry Nicholls as he gets down on one knee and rather hoicks a sweep away to backward square leg. Joe Root whirls his way through the rest of the over without much damage.

Darkness update. The floodlights are on.

Henry Nicholls unfurls a lovely drive that's well stopped at backward point.

It's got very grey, very quickly. There's talk of a thunderstorm, but it's clear in the distance. A stiff breeze should keep the clouds moving, but it's muggy.

  14. NZ 198-3published at 65 overs

Every time England play New Zealand, we get those sort of messages. It's impossible to dislike them.

Strangely, we don't get quite as many when David Warner and Steve Smith rock up for the Ashes.

Very pleased for Conway. As an England supporter, New Zealand are the only team I don't mind losing to. Fantastic spirit, professionalism and style.

Still 27 overs left in the day.

Not saying England are a spinner light, but it's just been suggested that Dan Lawrence could turn his arm over for a bit.

Devon Conway goes for a sweep, makes a bit of a mess of it as he yanks one hand off the bat, but it drops just short of a thundering Mark Wood down towards backward square.

Henry Nicholls then smacks a ball back down the ground and Joe Root almost gets a hand to it to run out Conway at the non-striker's end.
