There's a chap in Edrich Stand asleep. Nothing unusual about that - plenty drop off during an afternoon at the Test. This fella, however, has his own pillow. Not a cushion, or one of those travel thingies you put around your neck, but a full-on pillow taken off the bed. Imagine packing your bag before leaving home. Ticket? Check. Sandwiches? Check. Pillow? Check.

  2. NZ 128-3published at 44 overs

    Conway 59, Nicholls 6

A fumble from Bracey allows a bye to be stolen. Wood may be bowling at over 90mph but that ball bounced before it reached the wicketkeeper.

As a bowler, Joe Root averages 27 to left-handers and 61 to right-handers.

  4. NZ 127-3published at 43 overs

There's no real turn for Root, which will disappoint him but also please him given he has left out his frontline spinner Jack Leach.

Ollie Robinson is having a good debut...

It's time for a bit of Joe Root's spin.

  6. NZ 125-3published at 42 overs

The umpire has a quiet word with Ollie Robinson as he comes close to stepping in the danger area on the pitch. His final ball moves well away from Devon Conway, and James Bracey has to pull off a goalkeeper-esque dive to stop it racing away.

I really need to know more about Alastair Cook's trip to Brentwood Go-Karting (see 14:59). I'm sure he'd be annoyingly good at it.

MC: Robinson used to bowl off spin until he was 18 at King's Canterbury - I once hit him for a boundary in a house match, only for him to be so angry that he decided to swap to anger fuelled pace - he dismissed me immediately. Am I then to thank for his incredible career?

  9. NZ 124-3published at 41 overs

    Conway 58, Nicholls 5

"Throw him out" shouts Michael Vaughan as a young lad is shown in the crowd wearing an Australia cap with a sign suggesting Australia will win the Ashes 4-1 this winter. Quite right too.

Wood hits Conway again although it looked like the thigh pad took the brunt of this one.

I didn’t dismiss an England cricketer but I once overtook Alastair Cook at Brentwood Go-Karting!

  11. NZ 120-3published at 40 overs

    Conway 57, Nicholls 2

This has been really good from Ollie Robinson. He has 2-25 from 10 overs.

Devon Conway is still holding firm...

  12. NZ 120-3published at 39.3 overs

Robinson is appealing for lbw now. I reckon if they hadn't have gone for the previous one they'd have reviewed this.

There wasn't a great deal of enthusiasm from behind.

Not a great review in truth.

That has got to have pitched outside leg.

That didn't feel quite right, but it was very full.

  17. Postpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

It's very full from Wood but must have pitched outside leg stump.

  18. England reviewpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 2 June 2021

Joe Root is hunting wickets. I think this is optimistic.

Wood hit new batsman Henry Nicholls on the pad.

Joe Root looks to be getting himself loose. I'm not sure I'd be using myself, as skipper, at this time.
