As a maths masters student I am intrigued by the definition of a 'collapse' by the batting team. Does anyone have a formula for what constitutes a collapse? Number of runs divided by number of wickets is lower than a certain number etc? As England fans we have had enough experience of them to get this definition nailed down today.

The watermelon/spring onion salad is making its fourth successive appearance on the lunch menu in the press box. It is showing more consistency than the England batting.

It's not been a great morning for a former England batsman either.

Any talk in the England dressing room this morning would not have started with 'Right lads, we must avoid the follow-on.' That has been a chastening morning.

Mitchell Santner is coming on for a quick bowl before luch.

A better over from Neil Wagner, although he's still missing his trademark short ball barrage, and England snaffle a single from it.

Kyle Jamieson shakes his head as Ollie Robinson offers a flat-footed waft at his latest delivery.

Jamieson then cuts Robinson in half with a delivery that jags back sharply. I was just reading a piece on Jamieson that said for much of his teenage years, he was a top-order batter. He didn't switch to bowling until before the 2014 Under-19 World Cup.
